On Monday afternoon just after 4pm, Engine 24 and Ladder 25 were clearing a Fire Alarm at the Hilton when CCFB alerted crews to a House Fire on Bayard Rd in Kennett Township. Crews made an immediate response and smoke could be seen from East Baltimore Pike.

Ladder 25 arrived to find smoke showing from a single-family dwelling while Engine 24 laid 1200’ of supply line from a hydrant to the scene and crews quickly went to work conducting searches and locating the fire. Deputy 25 arrived and assumed Command. All occupants of the home were evacuated prior to arrival.

Crews located a fire on the first floor that had extended into the attic and worked to extinguish. Additional arriving crews assisted with checking for extension and venting the roof to expose the fire in the attic.

The fire was placed under control within 40 minutes. Crews spent several more hours on scene performing overhaul and assisting the Fire Marshals Office. Fire Police closed Bayard Rd for the duration of the incident.

One FF was transported to a local hospital and was later released.

Thanks to the mutual aid departments who assisted on scene and covered the area while crews were committed on scene.

Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to advancing their education and serving our community are truly commendable. We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment and look forward to seeing the impact they will continue to make as paramedics.

A special congratulations goes to Sophia Crossan, who was honored with the Student of the Year Award for her outstanding accomplishments both academically and professionally. Your hard work and dedication clearly stood out!

We would also like to congratulate our PRN employee Liz Demshak-Geddes on being named Preceptor of the Year! Her commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation of paramedics is an incredible reflection of the dedication she brings to EMS.

Around 2pm today KRFD along with Squad 19 (Hockessin Fire Company - Station 19) were dispatched for an auto accident on Gap Newport Pike in Kennett Township. While responding, additional reports advised one person was trapped.

Assistant 24 arrived and established Command while crews from Engine 24, Rescue 25 and Squad 19 worked to extricate the trapped victim. 3 patients were transported to Christiana Hospital.

Fire Police from Kennett Fire Company No. 1 and Avondale Fire Company closed Route 41 for the duration of the incident.

It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of Fire Police Captain Jeff Hammaker, a dedicated volunteer and cherished friend whose commitment to his community left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He became Fire Police Captain in 2012 and was routinely one of Longwood's top responders each year.

Jeff devoted countless hours to serving his fire company and the community. As Fire Police Captain, he was a steady presence at emergency scenes, ensuring the safety of fellow responders and the public with professionalism, calmness, and unwavering dedication. His willingness to answer the call—day or night—reflected a lifetime of selfless service and commitment to protecting others. He also attended most weekly training sessions, took photographs, and assisted with traffic control at numerous public events.

While we are saddened by his passing, we are grateful for his years of service and unwavering devotion to public safety. We were honored to have him as part of our company, and his family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Ladder 25 is currently covering Darby Borough in Delaware County as part of a Fire Task Force while units from the area work to extinguish a fire at a large scrap metal recycling facility.

Crews from LFC, Kennett Fire Company No. 1 and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company have handled over 20 incidents in the last 24 hours including multiple motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide incidents and trees down.

Due to the storms last evening a large portion of the area is still without power, as we prepare for more storms this evening residents are reminded to keep generators away from the house and ensure the exhaust is not blowing towards the house. Also please make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors on each floor of your home.

Multiple crews remain prepared to handle any emergencies that may occur during to the storms this evening.

🚨 Temporary Phone Service Interruption 🚨

Longwood Fire Company is currently experiencing an interruption in our non-emergency phone service due to a network or provider outage.

If you have an emergency, please call 911 immediately. Emergency calls to 911 are not affected, and our firefighters and EMS personnel continue to respond to emergencies as normal.

We are working to restore phone service as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience. We will provide an update as soon as service has been restored.

Chester County will be under an Extreme Heat Warning beginning on Wednesday and lasting through Saturday, with heat indices of 100-110° expected each day. Even at the beaches and mountains, prolonged exposures to temperatures this high are dangerous.

Whether you plan to stay home or take part in any holiday festivities, we want to stress the following information.

• Increase your baseline water intake to at least 100 to 125 ounces (or 12 , 8 oz cups) per day.
• Know where to find shade and limit time in the sun.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing outside.
• Stay in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
• When you start to feel overheated, cool down using ice packs or cold towels on the back of your neck or by taking cool showers.
• Sidewalks can heat up to 180 degrees on a hot day. Please only walk dogs in the morning or at night, in shade, and on routes that are mostly grass to avoid heat stroke in your loved ones.

Lastly, know the signs of heat-related illness and call 9-1-1 for emergencies. Signs and symptoms of a heat-related emergency include:

🥴Dizziness or confusion
🤕 Throbbing headache
🤢Nausea or vomiting
🤒Red, hot skin with no sweat

Thank you Kennett Township Police Department for inviting us to the Kennett Family Fun Day this past weekend! Members from Longwood, and braved the heat to display their equipment and provide a vehicle extrication demonstration.

Additionally, we would like to thank the public who came over to ask questions about what we do and how we do it. We can't wait to do it again next year!
