For more than 65 years, the Chester County Conservation District has focused on protecting the natural resources of the county for current and future generations. The District assists builders, engineers, contractors, developers, farmers, and local citizens in developing and implementing conservation practices & plans. With the District's assistance, citizens are brought together with local, state

, and federal agencies to design creative solutions to a wide range of conservation and nonpoint source pollution (urban and rural runoff) issues.

🌊 Clean Streams Start with Conservation Districts

During Conservation District Week, we’re highlighting the work happening every day to protect our local waterways.

Conservation districts partner with farmers, municipalities, landowners, and community members to reduce pollution, improve stormwater management, and keep sediment and nutrients out of our streams. From reviewing permits to helping install conservation practices on the land, these efforts make a real difference for the health of our streams.

This week, we celebrate the local staff and volunteer directors working behind the scenes to keep Pennsylvania’s streams clean for future generations.

🌿 Healthy Streams Start with Healthy Streambanks

During Conservation District Week, we’re highlighting the power of riparian buffers.

Riparian buffers—trees and shrubs planted along streams—help filter pollutants, stabilize streambanks, reduce erosion, and provide habitat for wildlife.

Conservation districts work with landowners, farmers, and communities to plan and install riparian buffers that protect water quality while strengthening the landscape.

🚧 Protecting Streams Starts at the Source

During Conservation District Week, we’re highlighting the important work conservation districts do to prevent erosion and sediment pollution.

When soil washes off construction sites or disturbed land, it can end up in nearby streams, harming water quality and aquatic life. Conservation districts help review permits, provide technical guidance, and conduct site visits to ensure proper erosion and sediment controls are in place.

These efforts help keep soil where it belongs—on the land.

Behind the scenes, district staff and volunteer directors are working every day with contractors, developers, and communities to prevent pollution before it reaches our streams.

🌱 Agriculture and Conservation Go Hand in Hand

During Conservation District Week, we’re highlighting the partnerships that help keep Pennsylvania agriculture strong while protecting our natural resources.

Conservation districts work side-by-side with farmers to implement practices that improve soil health, protect water quality, and keep farms productive for generations to come. From nutrient management to helping install best management practices, these efforts support both the land and the people who depend on it.

Thank you to the farmers, conservation district staff, and volunteer directors who work every day to keep agriculture and conservation growing together in our communities.

That's a wrap on Chester County's 2026 Envirothon!

We had 360 students compete in teams from schools all over the county last week. Thank you to our sponsors, partners, friends and volunteers who all help make this event the best annually - we couldn't do it without you!

We will announce our winners soon, but wanted to share some snapshots of our two days in Hibernia Park until then. We had rain, we had sunshine, we had Earth Day, we had FUN.

Here's to everyone who made this event amazing! ☀🌳🐦

Interested in learning more about ACAP funding? Take a look at this video about some of ACAP success in Southeast PA that features PM Mushrooms here in Chester County, and CCCD's very own Thomas D'Lauro!

ACAP funding helped address wastewater and nutrient runoff from compost handling areas. A new concrete wharf and compost storage pad, along with wastewater transfer systems and a vegetated treatment area, now capture and treat wastewater while separating and managing clean stormwater—significantly reducing nutrient loss, erosion, and downstream impacts.

Wastewater runoff, manure management, and pasture degradation—see how Southeast PA farmers are tackling these challenges with ACAP support. In this video, vi...

Say hello to our Conservationist of the Quarter: Emily Greenwood!!

Emily has gracefully taken on the role of Envirothon Coordinator. Before Gaye Lynn retired, Emily worked so hard shadowing her so that she could learn as much as possible. Since Emily has formally stepped into the role of Envirothon Coordinator, she has brought with her that grace and flexibility. She asks for help when she needs it, solicits advice regularly, demonstrates solid leadership, shows appropriate reverence for the legacy of the Envirothon and Gaye Lynn’s fingerprint, and does it all with a smile on her face. During this, Emily has kept up with her Ag cooperators and has guided multiple CAP and ACAP projects to completion.

Thanks for all your hard work, Emily! We appreciate you!
