☀️ EARLY SUMMER HEATWAVE BEGINS TODAY ☀️

Heads up, Mid-South! A Heat Advisory goes into effect at 11:00 AM this morning and will run through 8:00 PM this evening across much of the region.

We are looking at dangerous heat indices climbing above 105°F. Please take extra precautions today if you have to be outside:
💧 Drink plenty of water (don't wait until you're thirsty!).
🛑 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🐾 Look out for your pets—keep them indoors and ensure they have fresh, cool water.
🚗 NEVER leave children or pets in a parked car.

Stay cool and check in on your neighbors!

🚨 HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT TUESDAY 🚨
Heads up, everyone! The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Tuesday from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT. We are looking at dangerously hot conditions across Southeast Missouri, East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and West Tennessee.

What to expect: Heat index values soaring up to 107°F due to a combination of high temperatures and intense humidity.

The Risks: Conditions like this make it incredibly easy for heat illnesses (like heat exhaustion or heat stroke) to strike quickly if you aren't careful.

Please take this seriously and look out for one another.

☀️ Stay Safe with These Quick Precautions:

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Drink plenty of water and fluids throughout the day—don't wait until you're already thirsty.

Find the A/C: Spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned spaces. If your home doesn't have A/C, head to a public library, mall, or cooling shelter.

Limit Sun Exposure: Avoid being outdoors during peak heat hours. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade.

Check on Others: Take a few minutes to check up on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone vulnerable to the heat.

Don't Forget Pets: Make sure your outdoor pets have plenty of fresh water and a shady retreat, or bring them indoors.

Stay cool and stay safe! 👇 Share this to remind your friends and family to pack an extra water bottle tomorrow.

Know the Signs: Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you or someone you know experiences confusion, dizziness, a rapid pulse, or stops sweating while feeling boiling hot, call 911 immediately.

⚠️ URGENT: ELEVATED FIRE DANGER TODAY ⚠️

The National Weather Service has placed our area under an Elevated Fire Danger alert for today, Wednesday, May 13.

Because of the dry conditions and winds expected to stay above 7 mph, we are asking all residents to strictly avoid any open burning. Under these conditions, a small spark from a brush pile or campfire can quickly turn into a dangerous, fast-moving wildfire that is difficult to control.

How you can help keep our community safe:

🚫 No outdoor burning: Postpone burning yard waste, debris, or using fire pits.

🚬 Dispose of smoking materials properly: Never toss ci******es out of car windows.

⛈️ STAY WEATHER AWARE: Severe Weather Likely Tonight ⛈️

We are once again tracking the potential for severe weather heading into this evening and the overnight hours. Forecasts for tonight, Tuesday, May 5, indicate a risk of strong storms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

Because much of this activity may occur while you are sleeping, it is critical that you have a way to wake up if a warning is issued for our area.

Overnight Weather Update

We will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the night.

At this time, the tornado threat has diminished significantly, but it has not been completely eliminated, so we encourage everyone to remain weather-aware as you head into the overnight hours.

We are expecting thunderstorms to move into the area later tonight. These storms could produce:

Hail (possibly large at times)
Frequent lightning
Heavy rainfall

Please stay alert, especially if storms approach your area while you are asleep. Make sure you have a way to receive warnings overnight.

📡 Here is the latest look at the radar.

We will continue to monitor conditions closely through the night. Stay safe!

🚨 Kennett Office of Emergency Management Update 🚨

We have now shifted our focus to storms developing out to our west, which are currently producing damaging winds and large hail.

Our office has been in constant contact with the National Weather Service, and these storms are expected to move into our area later this evening. While we do not anticipate them being as severe as what is currently occurring, we will continue to monitor conditions closely.

There are ongoing thunderstorm watches, and some rotation has been observed within these storms. Please remain weather aware this evening and ensure you have a reliable way to receive warnings if they are issued.

We will continue to provide updates as needed. Stay safe, Kennett.

⚠️ Severe Weather Update ⚠️

We are currently monitoring a storm in Clay County that has already produced winds up to 80 mph and ping pong ball size hail.

If this storm continues on its current track, it is expected to pass north of Kennett. However, storms can change quickly, so we encourage everyone to stay weather aware and be prepared in case conditions shift. Northern Dunklin County continues to be under a Thunderstorm Warning until 6:30pm

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed. Stay safe and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
