A-Squad deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in Tri-City Heights. Carole, a friend of the homeowner, arrived to the location to drop off some items for her friend that was not home.

As Carole approached the home, she was quickly met with confrontation from the friend’s adult son. A person that has a history of violence and assaults.

The suspect male, James Daniel, took Carole’s phone from her, broke it in half and shattered it. Daniel also took Carole’s keys from her and threw them into a grassy field across the street.

Carole was able to safely get away from Daniel, and go to a neighboring residence to call police.

Deputies quickly arrived to the location and arrested Daniel after probable cause was established.

It was learned that while Carole left to call police, Daniel had gained access to Carole’s vehicle. Daniel opened all four doors, threw a walking cart on her front windshield and rummaged through it, removing Carole’s personal property. One of items being a electronic tablet in which he destroyed.

Daniel also took f***s and smeared it on the exterior of the vehicles door handles and rear window.

Once Daniel was taken to the Benton County Jail, Deputy Bergman and her partner, K9 Sir Edward conducted an article search for the victims keys that were thrown into the field.

K9 Edward successfully located the keys on the article search and Carole was very appreciative that her keys were located and she didn’t need to make additional accommodations to have her vehicle towed to her home from the location.

With the help of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Foundation our deputies were able to provide the victim with a $100.00 Visa gift card to help her with the costs to get a new phone as well as a car wash voucher, in addition to making sure that the suspect was held accountable for his actions.

Daniel was arrested for malicious mischief, vehicle prowling and disorderly conduct.

This is one of the nearly 200 calls for service handled by our office over the weekend.

Stay safe.

🎉 Big congratulations to Charlotte for winning the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Patch Art Contest! 🎨🇺🇸

This year’s challenge was to design a patch celebrating America’s 250th Birthday, and Charlotte’s beautiful artwork absolutely hit the mark!

To celebrate her talent, we presented Charlotte with a framed display of her art and the finished patch, a $100 gift card, and with handful patches from the Benton County Sheriff Foundation to share with her friends and family.

Charlotte’s design is now officially part of the Foundation Patch Project. All proceeds from this patch will go toward our Community Care Fund, giving deputies the resources they need to help those most in need in our community. Watch the Foundation's page to see when the patches are released to the public.

Way to go, Charlotte! We are so proud to have your art represent us. 👏✨

Deputies received several calls of a female subject walking on the roadway causing vehicles to swerve out of the way in the Finley area. The female, who also appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, also trespassed onto a local resident's property and caused a disturbance when she was told to leave by the owner.

Deputies eventually contacted 39-year-old Nicole Garza who refused directives to stay off the roadway. She was subsequently arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing.

Case #2026-09630

On April 10, 2026, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 130000 block of Taylor Road for a report of a missing 7yearold specialneeds child. The residence is located in a rural area adjacent to an irrigation canal.

Upon arrival, deputies immediately initiated a methodical search of the property and surrounding area. Additional resources, including drones and K9 units, were deployed when the child was not immediately located.

Just over an hour after the initial report, a second call was received from an irrigation district employee who reported seeing a person in the water approximately two miles from the residence. Deputies responded promptly to the location, deputies acted swiftly with one of the deputies removing his gear jumping into the canal to retrieve the young child. The individual located in the canal was identified as the missing child, and lifesaving measures were initiated immediately.

Medical personnel arrived on scene, continued resuscitation efforts, and transported the child to a local hospital. Tragically, the child did not survive.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has been activated to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives, in coordination with the Benton County Coroner, will continue their work in the coming weeks.
