Mobility looks different for everyone—and the right support can make all the difference.

Canes, walkers, and other mobility aids are tools that help us stay steady, confident, and independent. Friends, family, and community support can encourage us to stay active, try new things, and keep doing what we enjoy.

When we combine the right mobility aids with strong social connections, we create more opportunities to move safely, stay engaged, and continue living life fully.

September is Falls Prevention Awareness Month! Let’s make social connection a priority this month and beyond to help reduce our risk of falls and stay steady as we age.

Staying connected isn’t just good for our mood, it’s an important part of our overall health. Social connections can support habits that lower our risk of falls, like staying active, and making safe, healthy choices.

Whether it’s joining a class with a friend, going for a walk together, or simply checking in with someone you care about, those small moments of connection add up to better mobility and greater confidence. See first comment to find more information.

There's still time to register for Powerful Tools for Caregivers! You're there for them; we're here for you! Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week, evidence-based program, is a self-care education program for family caregivers. PTC provides tools and strategies to better handle the unique challenges caregivers face. Join us Thursday, September 10, 10 a.m. - Noon, at the Kenosha Northside Neighborhood Library, 1500 27th Ave., Community Room A. Learn about four decisions you'll need to make, including the basics of Medicare coverage, options for private health and drug coverage, and public benefits that can help with healthcare costs. The Kenosha County ADRC's Dementia Specialist offers Memory Screens throughout the week. Memory screens can provide relief for individuals concerned about normal memory loss, lead to diagnosis of treatable conditions and offer the ability to make lifestyle changes early when they have the greatest potential for positive effect and the opportunity to participate in making future decisions. Screening results are not a diagnosis, and individuals who have concerns are encouraged to pursue a full medical exam. We recommend scheduling an appointment. Appointments are available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Call the ADRC 262-605-6646.

Volunteers are then court appointed as the legal decision maker. The program provides training, support and on-going assistance for the volunteer guardian to successfully and capably perform their responsibilities.
