The members of the Kenova Fire Department would like to extend our congratulations to our neighbors at the Huntington Fire Department on the opening of their new Westmoreland Fire Station.

A tremendous amount of hard work, planning, and dedication goes into a project of this magnitude, and we are excited to see this investment in public safety become a reality for the citizens of Huntington.

The new Westmoreland Fire Station, located in the 3200 block of Piedmont Road, will officially open on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The public is invited to attend and tour the facility.

We would also like to recognize Sue’s Antique Mall for making their parking lot available for the event and TTA for providing shuttle service to attendees.

Congratulations again to the Huntington Fire Department on this outstanding addition to your community. We wish you many years of safe service from your new home!

🚒🔥 June Fire Safety Tip: Travel Fire Safety 🔥🚒

Summer vacation season is here, and while you’re planning adventures, don’t forget to plan for safety!

Whether you’re staying in a hotel, motel, cabin, Airbnb, or vacation rental, take a few minutes upon arrival to review the fire safety plan.

🏨 If you’re staying in a hotel or motel:
✅ Read the evacuation plan posted in your room.
✅ Locate the two nearest exits.
✅ Count the number of doors between your room and the exit stairwell. This can help you find your way out in smoke or darkness.
✅ Find the location of fire alarms and emergency exits.
✅ Choose accommodations that have hard-wired smoke alarms and automatic fire sprinklers whenever possible.

🏡 If you’re staying in a vacation or short-term rental:
✅ Make sure everyone knows the rental address.
✅ Identify two ways out of every room and out of the home.
✅ Check for working smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside sleeping areas, and on every level.
✅ Verify carbon monoxide alarms are installed and working.
✅ Ensure doors and windows leading outside can be opened easily.
✅ Locate any fire extinguishers.
✅ Establish an outdoor meeting place a safe distance from the rental.

⏱️ Taking just a few minutes to prepare could save precious seconds during an emergency.

🚒👮‍♀️🚑 Future First Responders Family Fun Event! 🚑👮‍♀️🚒

The Kenova Fire Department is excited to partner with local community organizations for a fun-filled evening designed especially for our youngest community heroes! ❤️

Bring the kids out to meet real first responders, explore emergency vehicles, and learn about the important roles our firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and community helpers play every day.

🫧 Kids can also cool off and have fun in the “Foam-the-Fire Fun Pit” where they can splash, play, and pretend to help put out fires!

👶 This event is perfect for babies, toddlers, and young children who love to learn, play, and imagine themselves as future heroes.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, the members of the Kenova Fire Department ask our community to take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything in defense of our nation.

We remember the fallen. We honor their sacrifice. And we stand forever grateful.

🚒 Congratulations to Firefighter Acord and Firefighter Napier on receiving their graduation cords from Kenova Fire Department in recognition of their dedication and service as they prepare to graduate from Spring Valley High School! We are incredibly proud of both of you and all that you have accomplished.

We would also like to congratulate all 7 of our members who successfully completed the Fire Science Program at Spring Valley High School this year. Through hard work and dedication, these students earned their Firefighter I & II certifications along with several additional certifications that will help prepare them for their future in the fire service.
