We at the Kensington Police Department are happy to see so many kids and families outside enjoying the fresh air, riding bicycles and e-bikes throughout our community. Getting outdoors, staying active, and enjoying time with friends is something we fully support.

With that said, we have recently received numerous complaints regarding unsafe operation of bicycles and e-bikes on roadways, and in parking areas. We would like to remind everyone that bicycles and e-bikes are subject to the rules of the road, just like motor vehicles. Riders must obey stop signs and traffic lights, ride in the proper direction of travel, yield when required, and operate responsibly and courteously around pedestrians and vehicles.

Under New Hampshire law, e-bikes are classified into three categories/ classes:

Class 1
• Electric motor less than 750 watts
• Pedal assistance up to 20 mph
• (no motor assist over 20 mph)
• No throttle

Class 2
• Electric motor less than 750 watts
• Pedal assistance and non-pedaling propulsion up to 20 mph
• (no motor assist over 20 mph)
• Has a throttle

Class 3
• Electric motor less than 750 watts
• Pedal assistance up to 28 mph
• (no motor assist over 28 mph)
• No throttle
• Cannot be operated by a person less than 16 years of age
• Must be equipped with a speedometer
• Prohibited from most rail trails

A class 1 and class 2 electric bicycle may be ridden on bicycle paths or on multi-use paths where bicycles are permitted (unless specifically prohibited.)

A class 3 electric bicycle shall not be ridden on a bicycle or multi-use path unless it is within or adjacent to a highway or roadway, or unless a city, town, or state agency having jurisdiction of the path permits the operation of class 3 electric bicycles on that path.

New Hampshire defines an e-bike as a bicycle equipped with an electric motor of less than 750 watts. E-bike riders are expected to follow the same roadway laws and safety practices as traditional bicycles.

We encourage parents to speak with their children about safe riding habits, helmet use, and being respectful of others using our roads, trails and parking lots. Working together helps keep everyone safe while still allowing kids to enjoy being outdoors.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.

The Kensington Police Department honors and mourns all American military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces.

Depicted here is the Missing Man Table (or Fallen Comrade Table). Every element on this table has profound meaning and symbolism:

• Empty Chair: Represents the missing service member who is no longer present.
• White Cloth: Symbolizes the pure motives and intentions of the service member.
• Single Red Rose: Reminds us of the lives of the fallen and the loved ones keeping faith.
• Red or Yellow Ribbon: Symbolizes the continued determination to account for the missing.
• Slice of Lemon: Represents the bitter fate of those captured or missing in a foreign land.
• Pinch of Salt: Symbolizes the tears of the missing, fallen, and their grieving families.
• Inverted Glass: Signifies that the fallen cannot share a toast with us.
• Lighted Candle: Reflects the hope for their return and honors the light they brought to the nation.
• Bible: Represents the spiritual strength and faith required to sustain those lost

As we approach Memorial Day, let us take time to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made by those that never made it home.

On Wednesday November 26, 2025 the Kensington Police Department took a call from the Nurture and Nature Children’s Center off of Amesbury Road, in Kensington, NH. The representative for the Children’s Center stated that when she arrived at the property that morning, she noticed the lock box that housed the key to the building was missing from the rear door. She then entered the building and noticed that several items, along with paperwork was disrupted and tossed behind the old bar area. She also noticed several items, including a large screen television and banker boxes to be missing.

An Officer arrived on scene and conducted a walk-through of the building. All of the missing items were located in the basement, staged by the rear basement exit door, assumingly to be removed at a later time.

KPD conducted the initial investigation, checking with neighbors and neighboring video cameras in an attempt to obtain a lead. On Wednesday March 11, 2026 a Seabrook Detective reached out to KPD advising that they had a tip pertaining to the break-in and burglary of the Nurture and Nature Children’s Center.

This tip, along with extensive interviews made by the KPD identified two suspected individuals. Further investigation produced the Probable Cause necessary to obtain Arrest Warrants for each of the following individuals:
33 Year Old Aaron Driver and
43 Year Old Vicki Knowles, both formerly of Seabrook NH.

On April 6, 2026 Knowles was arrested and taken into custody. Knowles was arraigned on April 7, 2026 and remains at the Rockingham County Jail awaiting a Probable Cause Hearing. Knowles (and Driver) will answer to the following charges:
Burglary (Nighttime) NH RSA 635:1,I
Prowling NH RSA 644:6
Criminal Mischief NH RSA 634:2,II

**Kensington Police Department Informational Statement – New Hampshire Vehicle Inspections**

On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction temporarily preventing the State of New Hampshire from eliminating its motor vehicle inspection requirements.
As a result of this court order, all motor vehicles operated on public roadways must continue to comply with current New Hampshire inspection laws. To maintain legal operating status, vehicles are still required to display a valid New Hampshire inspection sticker as proof of compliance.
Until further notice or additional court action, the inspection requirement remains in full effect.
The Kensington Police Department will continue to enforce all applicable motor vehicle laws. Officers may stop and cite vehicles that display safety-related deficiencies, equipment violations, or other conditions that would otherwise fail a New Hampshire safety inspection, regardless of the status of any pending legislative or legal actions.
Motorists are encouraged to ensure their vehicles remain properly inspected and in safe operating condition to avoid enforcement action and to promote roadway safety.

’Twas the night before Christmas in Kensington town,
And the cruiser rolled softly, no sirens, lights down.
The snow gently blanketed Amesbury Road bright,
As the moon cast a glow on this calm winter night.

The streets were all quiet, not a call on the air,
Just the hum of the engine and cold frosted air.
The homes were tucked snug with their families inside,
With laughter and cocoa and fires burning wide.

I cruised past the Common, so peaceful and still,
Past the old town hall resting under Shaw's Hill.
The church bells stood silent, the flag hung just right,
As stars twinkled down on Kensington’s night.

No radios crackled, no troubles in sight,
Just porch lights and wreaths glowing warm through the white.
Stockings were hung by the chimneys with care,
In hopes that Saint Nick soon would quietly be there.

I thought of the folks that I serve every day,
The waves and the nods as I pass on my way.
This badge on my chest felt lighter somehow,
With goodwill and peace filling up the town now.

Then off in the distance, a sound soft and low,
Not a call—just the wind drifting over the snow.
I smiled to myself, slowed the cruiser right down,
And wished Merry Christmas to all in the town.

So here’s to Kensington, cozy and bright,
To safe winter roads and a calm, silent night.
From this officer’s beat, with cheer and goodwill,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all—please drive safe still.

Chief Cain and the Kensington Police Department wish everyone the Happiest of Holidays, and Best New Year!
