On June 3, 2026, memorial ribbons honoring Captain Brandon Minneman and Deputy Chief Jimmy Webb were retrieved by the IAFF 7th District Motorcycle Group. Ribbons are being collected throughout the state for the 10 fallen firefighters who will be honored at the 2026 Washington State Fallen Firefighters Memorial, to be held Sunday, June 14 at the State Capitol in Olympia.

The Motorcycle Group will es**rt the ribbons to the memorial, where a family member will place each ribbon on a Memorial Pike Pole. These pike poles hold the names of our fallen as a tribute to their dedication to the profession of public service, to protect life and property. They will never be forgotten.

Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜€, who passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026.

Les played a pivotal role in transforming the Kent Fire Department into what is now Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority. As an original member of our Governance Board, he helped shape the organization we are today and remained a passionate advocate for our mission, our personnel, and the communities we proudly serve.

A dedicated public servant for nearly two decades, Les served in numerous leadership roles, including as a City of Kent Council Member, on the King County Council, and in the Washington State House of Representatives. Throughout his service, he remained deeply committed to improving the lives of others and strengthening the communities he loved.

Serving on the Puget Sound Fire Governance Board was a role Les held with great pride. He brought energy, conviction, and unwavering support to every conversation and decision. To many within our organization, Les was more than a leader โ€” he was family.

His legacy lives on through the organization he helped build, the communities he championed, and the countless lives he impacted along the way. He will be deeply missed.

Puget Sound Fire Honor Guard members will join family, friends, and community members in honoring Les at his Celebration of Life this Saturday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Vineyard Fellowship in Covington.

According to the American Heart Association, about 90 percent of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die. When a person has a cardiac arrest, survival depends on immediately receiving CPR from someone nearby. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double, or triple a cardiac arrest victimโ€™s chance of survival. When using an AED, the chances of survival are even higher.
If you are called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love: a child, a spouse, a parent, or a friend.

Puget Sound Fire encourages everyone to take a CPR class. There are public and private options available.

This past Saturday, members of Puget Sound Fire attended the King County Fire Chiefโ€™s Associationโ€™s Diversity and Recruitment Workshop. More than 150 people attended this semi-annual event, which was geared toward members of the BIPOC community, women, limited-English-speaking community members, and/or those with no prior fire service experience who would like to learn more about a rewarding career in Fire and EMS. The goal of this event was to provide valuable information, mentorship, and connections to help individuals start a successful career in public service.

The event featured six breakout classes to help prepare individuals for key elements of joining the fire service:

โ€ข Written firefighter exam prep
โ€ข Oral board interview prep
โ€ข Wellness and fitness prep
โ€ข Medical, psych, and background check prep
โ€ข A Day in the life of a firefighter
โ€ข Networking with firefighters from area fire departments

In addition to the breakout classes, a diverse group of speakers from around the region, including Puget Sound Fireโ€™s Firefighter Temesgen Zegergis, spoke to help attendees better understand why they chose a rewarding career in fire and life safety and what that journey was like from their unique perspective. A special thanks to the Bellevue Fire Department and Bellevue College for hosting Saturdayโ€™s workshop. The next King County Fire Chiefโ€™s Associationโ€™s Diversity and Recruitment Workshop will be in the fall of 2026. We hope to see you there!
