Community Opportunity:

The City of Federal Way is hosting a Juneteenth Ceremony at City Hall on Thursday, June 18, at 12 p.m. (33325 8th Ave. South, Federal Way, WA, United States, Washington 98003.)

Join us as we honor and commemorate Juneteenth, the day that marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in the United States.

This special event will include guest speakers, community reflections and a reading of the City of Federal Way’s Juneteenth Proclamation.

Hey Roadrunners families!

Recently, 4th and 5th graders in Chess Club have been participating in a championship (bracket style, like fantasy football!) to determine a winner. They have been practicing skills like: strategy, sportsmanship, problem-solving, and more throughout this period. Ultimately, the final championship was between Shaelah and Gio, and Gio won the match!

Please help us in congratulating these scholars for their hard work, dedication, and support of one another. And WAY TO GO GIO for winning the competition!

Recientemente, los alumnos de 4.º y 5.º grado del Club de Ajedrez han estado participando en un campeonato (con sistema de llaves de eliminación, ¡al estilo de las ligas de fantasía!) para determinar un ganador. What we're working on Wednesday:

Kindergarteners in Sra. Escobar's class conducted a science experiment called Force Olympics: Pushes & Pulls. They used a wrecking ball to knock down a wall without damaging the homes behind it. They praticed depth of field and fine motor skills. What fun, Kindergarteners! We are so proud of you for experimenting and learning!

Los alumnos de kínder de la clase de la Sra. Escobar realizaron un experimento científico titulado «Las Olimpiadas de la Fuerza: Empujes y Tirones». Utilizaron una bola de demolición para derribar un muro sin dañar las casas situadas detrás de él. De este modo, practicaron la percepción de la profundidad y sus habilidades motrices finas. ¡Qué divertido, chicos de kínder! ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de ustedes por experimentar y aprender!

Wow! We had an amazing time at Science Day last week!

Thank you to all of the families that joined us to conduct color experiments, make slime, create playdough, protect our eggs, construct buildings, and fill our lava lamps! Every students was engaged, applying what they learned this year to their classroom science project. We can't wait to do it again next year!

Gracias a todas las familias que nos acompañaron para realizar experimentos con colores, preparar *slime*, hacer plastilina, proteger huevos, construir estructuras ¡y llenar nuestras lámparas de lava! Happy last full week of school, Sunnycrest!

What a whirlwind this year has been and can you believe, we’re at the last full week? If you haven’t seen Mrs. Encinas’ post yet, this week is Spirit Week! You may have also noticed from our office team’s outfit as today was Dress as Your Favorite Food or Character Day!

Friday: PJ & Plushie Day!

IMPORTANT DATES:

June 11 - 5th Grade Promotion (6-7 pm)
June 12 - Coffee w/ Principal, End of Year Assemblies
June 15 - Kindergarten promotion (AM), Field Day! (Grades 3-5 in AM, K-2 in PM)
June 16 - LAST DAY =( Reminder that school ends at 11:40 am, meaning there will be no lunch.

Please come by and check out our lost and found! There are SO MANY JACKETS, SWEATSHIRTS, and COATS! If you want to bring something to appreciate teachers before the end of the year, please make sure you stop by and connect with the office, just as you would for bringing birthday treats or anything else.

Lastly, when you come for celebrations, please remember we do not allow balloons inside as when they escape it can impact our sprinkler system and ventilation. Thank you for understanding!

¡Qué año tan vertiginoso ha sido! ¿Pueden creer que ya estamos en la última semana completa? Si aún no han visto la publicación de la Sra. Encinas, ¡esta semana es la "Semana del Espíritu Escolar"! Quizás también lo notaron por la vestimenta del personal de la oficina, ya que hoy fue el día de "Vestirse como tu comida o personaje favorito".

Martes: Día de los Gemelos (vestirse igual que otra persona)
Miércoles: Día de sombreros o peinados divertidos
Jueves: Día de intercambio de roles (maestros y alumnos)
Viernes: ¡Día de pijamas y peluches!

FECHAS IMPORTANTES:

11 de junio - Ceremonia de promoción de 5.º grado (6:00 - 7:00 p. m.)
12 de junio - Café con la directora, Asambleas de fin de año
15 de junio - Ceremonia de promoción de Kindergarten (turno matutino), ¡Día de juegos al aire libre/Field Day! (Grados 3-5 por la mañana, K-2 por la tarde)
16 de junio - ÚLTIMO DÍA =( Recuerden que la escuela termina a las 11:40 a. m., por lo que no habrá servicio de almuerzo.

¡Por favor, pasen a revisar nuestra caja de objetos perdidos! ¡Hay MUCHÍSIMAS chaquetas, sudaderas y abrigos! Si desean traer algún detalle para agradecer a los maestros antes de que termine el año, asegúrense de pasar por la oficina y avisarnos, tal como lo harían al traer bocadillos de cumpleaños o cualquier otra cosa.

Thank you Thursday

Please join us in recognizing the Sunnycrest Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for the wealth of support they have provided this year. Among many other things, they raised funds to support Sunnycrest programs, volunteered at events, helped fund field trips and buses, and celebrated our teachers. They were also the amazing purveyors of Popcorn Fridays, a favorite with Sunnycrest students!

Thank you, PTA. We appreciate all that you have done and continue to do. We look forward to our shared future!
