Kent Social Services

Kent Social Services Kent Social Services commits to feeding the body and spirit of vulnerable people in the community Referral services are also offered.

Kent Social Services (KSS) is the only hot meal site in Kent and provides meals at no cost five days a week. KSS serves 50-60 individuals a day, 25,000 nutritious meals annually and distributes 10,000 bags of groceries annually. The facility serves as a place for adults to gather to relax, socialize and benefit from occasional educational programs. The Lord’s Pantry provides approximately three ba

gs of basic grocery staples once a month to financially vulnerable families and individuals who meet federal income eligibility requirements. Since there are numerous food pantries in Portage County, each one serves specific geographic areas. KSS serves households living in Kent, Franklin Township and the part of Brady Lake that is in the Kent public school district. Appointments must be made in advance and there is about a four-day wait from the call to the appointment (although emergency orders may be taken if time permits). For the first appointment, participants should bring a photo ID and proof of residence, such as a utility bill or lease. Due to our program, Kent residents now have access to emergency groceries and daily hot meals. This includes populations that especially demand attention. Senior citizens and children are among the largest groups that benefit from the services we provide. Of current pantry participants, 20% are seniors and 34% children. 29% of the meal participants are over the age of 60.

The directors of the RSA Foodshelf would like to give all of our donors a big heartfelt Thank you. Your generosity and sacrifice by giving on a regular basis makes all the difference. With the higher prices of gas and food everyone’s budget has become tighter. With all of this, social groups, churches, businesses, and individuals continue to step forward to help us provide for our less fortunate. Once again Thank you for your continued support.

This is our amazing volunteer, Maddie . Maddie won the 50/50 at the Children's Advocacy Center of Portage County Bowl Against Abuse on April 25th. And you may wonder what Maddie chose to do with her winnings... well she donated 1/3rd ($120) of it to the Kent Ravenna Mayor's hunger challenge today at Kent Social Services. This young lady's generous & selfless act brought all of us to tears.
"Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can".

Thank you Miss Maddie, you are all the things & we appreciate your kind & generous heart! 🩷
