**UPDATE** it seems power has been restored to almost all of Kentland. We have closed the Firehouse. If you are one of the few that still have no power and wish to access the facility, please contact The Newton County Dispatch Center and we will arrange for the facility to be open to you.
Original post:
Good evening, our Fire Chief, Matt Wittenborn, has been working with utility providers in an attempt to get a timeline for utility restoration. The best answer we could get was โseveral hours.โ As such, we are opening the Fire house (309 E. Bailie St.) to those that need to use it as a warming center, to charge devices, or take a warm shower. (Hot water is on demand so it takes some time to get hot.) Please bring your own towel and toiletries if you plan on showering. If the outage goes into the late evening, we have a limited number of cots and blankets available. We will have a representative there to help later this evening. The east walk through door is unlocked. Please do not enter the apparatus bays. Please direct general questions to [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected].
