π³ BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT CAST PARK! π
The Town of Kentland is excited to announce that the long-awaited improvements to Cast Park are officially moving forward!
Back in March 2025, the Town of Kentland was selected by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to receive $427,057 in Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) funding for the Cast Park project.
We did not make a public announcement at the time because there were still several important steps that had to be completed before construction could begin. Since then, the Town has successfully completed the required environmental review and SHPO/Section 106 process, received federal approval, and signed the grant agreement.
And now, weβre ready to get to work! π
π PART ONE: A BRAND-NEW PLAYGROUND
Work on the playground area is scheduled to begin this August!
The first phase will include:
β’ Removal of the existing pavilion and concrete
β’ Removal of the current playground equipment
β’ Removal of the old tire mulch
β’ Site preparation, grading and leveling
β’ Installation of the brand-new playground equipment
The new playground equipment has already been purchased and is currently here in Kentland! We hope to salvage as much of the existing equipment as possible for potential reuse.
The current timeline calls for demolition and site preparation to begin in early August, with installation of the new playground targeted for late August/early September.
There will also be opportunities for community members to volunteer and help with portions of the project, particularly with equipment installation and spreading mulch. Weβll share more information as those opportunities become available!
π PART TWO: NEW PAVILION & RESTROOM
The second major phase of the project will bring a new and upgraded pavilion and restroom facility to Cast Park.
The existing restroom facility will be removed, and a new pavilion/restroom facility will be constructed. Final design and construction plans are currently being developed. Once those plans are complete, they will go through the required review, permitting and bidding process before construction begins.
π A BIG IMPROVEMENT FOR KENTLAND
This project has been a long time coming, and we know many residents have been eager to see something happen at Cast Park.
After a lengthy grant approval, environmental review and planning process, we are finally at the point where residents will begin seeing physical changes taking place!
Weβre excited about what these improvements will mean for our community and look forward to seeing Cast Park transformed into an even better place for Kentland families, children and visitors.
Stay tuned for updates, volunteer opportunities and progress photos as the project gets underway!
π³ Cast Park is getting a BIG upgrade β and we canβt wait to share it with you! π
