🚒🔥 Fire Safety & Prevention at South Newton! 🔥🚒

Today, members of the Kentland Jefferson Township Fire Department had the opportunity to visit South Newton School and spend some time with some amazing young students!

We talked about fire safety, fire prevention, smoke alarms, stop-drop-and-roll, calling 911, and what to do if they ever find themselves in a fire. Most importantly, we talked about having a plan, staying calm, and getting outside safely.

The kids were full of great questions and enthusiasm, and we had a great time teaching them some very important lessons that could one day save their lives or the lives of someone they love.

A big thank-you to the teachers and staff at South Newton for welcoming us into your school and helping us teach these important safety messages.

👨‍🚒 Our firefighters don’t just respond to fires—we work hard to prevent them, too.

Stay safe, South Newton! 🚒❤️

🚒 STRUCTURE FIRE — KENTLAND

At approximately 4:02 a.m., the Kentland Jefferson Township Fire Department was paged to an active structure fire at A Stitch in Time Antique Shop, 402 W. Seymour Street in Kentland.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames shooting from the front of the building. Thankfully, the sole female occupant was able to escape the structure. She sustained minor injuries and was transported for medical evaluation.

Our firefighters immediately went to work to contain the fire and protect surrounding property. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

We would like to sincerely thank the departments and agencies that responded and assisted us:

Newton County Sheriff’s Department
Brook Fire Department
Goodland Fire Department
Morocco Fire Department
Sheldon Fire Department
Newton County Ambulance
Newton county Dispatch

We would also like to give a special thank you to Casey’s General Store and McDonald’s for providing our firefighters with coffee, donuts, and breakfast sandwiches. That kind of support means a lot to our crews, especially during the early morning hours.

Most importantly, we are thankful that the occupant was able to get out safely.

Please keep her and everyone affected by this fire in your thoughts as the investigation continues.

🇺🇸 WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE WORLD STOPPED TURNING? 🇺🇸

25 years later, most of us can still remember exactly where we were when we heard the news.

September 11, 2001, started like any other day. Then, in a matter of minutes, our world changed forever.

As firefighters, we remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. They ran toward the danger while others were running away. They answered the call, knowing there were people who needed them.

We also remember the police officers, EMS providers, military members, and the thousands of innocent men, women, and children who never made it home.

But 9/11 is also a reminder of something powerful: in the face of unimaginable tragedy, people came together. Strangers helped strangers. Communities stood shoulder to shoulder. The American flag flew proudly everywhere.

As we approach the 25th anniversary, I ask you:

Where were you when the world stopped turning?

Take a moment to remember where you were, who you were with, and what you felt that day. Most importantly, remember those who never got the chance to go home.

🇺🇸 Never Forget.
🚒 Never Forgotten.
🙏 May we always remember the sacrifice.
