Let's just be real for a minute. Most of you got these this weekend(if you didn't, it's coming)...We did too. Many of you are upset... We don't like them either. Taxes aren't fun for any of us, I promise! Ours aren't any prettier than yours and we get them in the mail and dread opening them just like anyone else. Understanding where your taxes go and how they are calculated can help (a little). Take a few minutes to look at the back sheet that shows what portion goes to the county or the town or the school or conservancy or library etc. We all need services at some point and taxes are a large part of how these services are funded (nothing is getting cheaper!) Taxes aren't fun but they are necessary unfortunately... so for now, I'll just be thankful that I'm fortunate enough to own something that I receive that tax bill for. I'm sure there's someone who would gladly trade positions with me.
All that being said, if you saw an astronomical change on that bill and nothing changed on your property between Jan of 2024 and Jan of 2025, please feel free to reach out and ask questions, we are all human, mistakes can be made, but we are here to serve you. We will do our best to help answer any questions.
Taxes are paid 1 year in arrears so there may not be anything we can do about the current tax bill because the value was set last year (unless there is a blatant error). In a few short weeks, however, you will receive an updated assessment (Form 11) that will be utilized to calculate next year's tax bill. Please don't ignore that notice as it is time sensitive.... Just be kind to our employees when you call, they don't make the rules either and they are genuinely great people just doing a job most people don't want to!
Here's to a "happy" tax season!
