🚨 WEATHER & TRAVEL ADVISORY: HARDIN COUNTY & CENTRAL OHIO 🚨

The persistent heavy rainfall and saturated soil conditions across Hardin County and the broader central Ohio region continue to create severe, localized travel hazards. With local waterways swollen, drainage systems fully taxed, and standing water lingering on secondary routes, motorists are strongly advised to remain vigilant.

⚠️ CRITICAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR DRIVERS:

🚗 Turn Around, Don't Drown: Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways or standing water. Just six inches of moving water can reach the bottom of most passenger cars and cause loss of control or stalling, while twelve inches can sweep a vehicle away.

🕳️ Beware of Hidden Hazards: Standing water can easily conceal washed-out road shoulders, deep potholes, or debris-blocked culverts.

📉 Reduce Speed: Slick, waterlogged pavement drastically increases the risk of hydroplaning. Allow extra braking distance between vehicles.

🚧 Obey Barricades: Never move, bypass, or drive around road closure signs. They are placed to protect drivers from impassable or structurally compromised routes.

SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!
Well folks, the bad guys are at it again. Today they have decided to call Hardin County residents claiming to be Sergeant Everhart from the Sheriff’s Office. The scammers claim to have a warrant for the resident for missing jury duty but if they pay them money over the phone the warrant will be dismissed. Listen folks, that is not how the justice system works. We do not call people who have a warrant and we NEVER take money over the phone for bond or bail.

Please just hang up on these scumbags, they are scammers. If you receive such a phone call please call my office at 419-673-1268 to report them.

Thank you,
Sheriff (not Sergeant) Keith Everhart
