Kim Taboada Arzate Kentwood School Board Trustee "Working for our children: In Transparency for Equity and Excellence

A lifelong community member, I have witnessed and experienced the progression of our community. As a graduate of Kentwood Public Schools and parent of the same, I am aware of the diverse experiences of Kentwood Public school students. As a natural leader, I am positioned to serve formally as an advocate for our children, our families, and their success. I grew up in the Kentwood Public School syst

em, attending Meadowlawn and Alexander Hamilton Elementary, Crestwood Middle and received my diploma from EKHS in 1982. Having a long family history in the Kentwood community, I desired to stay in my community, work and raise a family of four children who have all graduated from the same Kentwood schools. The educational journey of each of my children has been the ‘grassroots’ of my dedication and work to be an advocate for all students needing additional tools or resources to receive fair educational and extracurricular opportunities. My children’s educational journeys took diverse paths, covering several areas, including athletics, high academics, skill trade, and supported education. I had to be an advocate for each in different ways, but advocacy was indeed necessary for each of their success. Having a father with literacy challenges made me passionate about providing academic support to countless other students, always pushing them to their fullest potential.
