βοΈπ Kentwood Police Department Reminds Drivers: Look Before You Lock πβοΈ
As temperatures continue to rise, the Kentwood Police Department would like to remind everyone of the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles. Even on a relatively mild day, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can increase rapidly and become life-threatening within minutes.
π Never leave a child alone in a vehicle, even for a short period of time. A quick errand or brief stop can quickly turn into an emergency.
Help Prevent Hot Car Tragedies:
β
Place a purse, wallet, phone, or another essential item in the back seat so you are reminded to check before locking your vehicle.
β
Keep a stuffed animal in your child's car seat and move it to the front seat when your child is riding with you as a visual reminder.
β
Make it a habit to check the back seat every time you exit your vehicle.
β
Always lock your vehicle when parked to prevent children from entering on their own.
If You See a Child Alone in a Vehicle:
π Call 911 immediately if the child appears to be in distress or in danger.
π Stay near the vehicle and provide dispatchers with as much information as possible until help arrives.
As we head into the warmer months, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and help keep our youngest community members safe. A simple check of the back seat could save a life.
