Yesterday our guest speaker was Karla Pfister Dargis, the owner of the new business on the corner of Hwy 51 and Ave F called Sage Country Boutique. Karla introduced herself and described the business. Their grand opening is tomorrow from 10 to 4 and the event looks like a lot of fun. The Kentwood Rotary Club welcomes Karla and her business, and we encourage the Community to support Sage Country Boutique.

Remember that October is breast cancer awareness month. Kentwood has many breast cancer survivors and each has a heartbreaking tale that ends happily with their survival. Today the Town of Kentwood honored those survivors and reminded the public of the existence and persistence of breast cancer, and the need to get regular checkups. This morning, members of the Kentwood Rotary Club joined Rotarion Evelyn Williams- a breast cancer survivor herself- to celebrate the day at City Hall. Together we can help to stop this horrible disease.

Last Saturday, Rotarians with the Kentwood Rotary Club continued Operation Sidewalk Cleanup by working on the sidewalks on the east side of Kentwood High School. We want to thank the Rotarians that came out and helped because it sure does look better. We will be doing more cleanups in the future and we welcome any volunteers.

Last Thursday, Tangiphoa Tax Assessor Kevin Raiford was the guest speaker. He and his Deputy Assessor Andrew Faller provided lots of interesting facts about what the tax assessor's office does and the mapping system the assessor's office employs. The morning, the Kentwood Rotary Club kicked off it's sidewalk cleanup project. Six Rotarians worked hard to restore a section of the sidewalk along the East entrance of KHS and the Jr high. This was only the first effort but it was a huge success. The Club's motto is Service Above Self and they lived that motto this morning. We'll be doing more soon and if you would like to help, we'd love to have you.

The Kentwood Rotary Club is proud to announce a new Rotary Club Project- “Operation Sidewalk Cleanup”.
Our Town has some lovely and useful sidewalks that enhance the appearance of our community and create useful passageways for our citizens and visitors. But sadly, time has taken its toll on some of those sidewalks and they have become overgrown, dangerous and unsightly.
The Kentwood Rotary Club, whose motto is “Service Above Self,” is embarking on a new project to cleanup many of our sidewalks and make them passable and attractive. This project will be undertaken by Rotary Club Members that will volunteer their time and efforts. It will be a large project. The task will take a while, so don’t expect instant completion. But you should notice improvement soon. You will start seeing Rotary Club Members at work in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to help, speak to a Rotary Club member about your helping.
In the meantime, we need your help to identify areas of sidewalks that you think we should tackle. If you have the technical ability, please send an email with photos of the sidewalk and identify the area by street and address if possible. You can address it to my personal email- [email protected]. If you can’t do that, please go on the Kentwood Rotary Club page and leave a comment with the information.
