Congratulations go out to East Kentwood's Stephanie Stephenson for being named the State Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Athletic Coaches Association (MHSCA)! In announcing this selection, the MHSCA noted, "The selection of Coach Stephenson reflects the high standard of excellence maintained by East Kentwood schools and the broader community." We congratulate Coach Stephenson on this honor and thank her for all she has done throughout the years to support our students, our schools, and our community. Go Falcons!

A big congratulations goes out to KPS teacher Cassandra “Cassie” Oostindie, who has been selected as a 2026 Jostens Renaissance Educator of the Year!

Cassie is one of just five educators across the country to receive this prestigious honor, which recognizes outstanding individuals who use affirmation and recognition to positively impact school culture and serve as catalysts for positive change.

Cassie serves students at both the Freshman Campus and East Kentwood High School, making a difference each day through her commitment to students and the KPS community. She will be recognized for this incredible achievement in June at the Jostens Renaissance Global Conference.

Congratulations, Cassie! We are proud to have you representing KPS!

Kentwood Public Schools congratulates Director of Communication Tim Hargis on his selection to the Leadership Grand Rapids Class of 2027!

Tim is looking forward to learning alongside and contributing to this group of community leaders as they connect, collaborate, and explore ways to make a positive impact across West Michigan.

We are proud to once again have KPS represented in Leadership Grand Rapids, continuing a tradition of district leaders participating in this valuable community leadership experience. We look forward to all that Tim and his fellow Class of 2027 cohort members will learn and accomplish together in the year ahead. Go Falcons!

It was great to welcome our students back to school today! Thanks to our parents and families for their support this morning, our staff for making sure all was ready for a warm, welcoming start to the new year, and, of course, to our students for bringing their spirt and smiles back to our hallways. There’s nothing quite like having the entire Kentwood Public Schools team together, and our 2026-27 All-Staff Kickoff earlier this week was a celebration of the people, passion, and community that make KPS such a special place!

From a fantastic lunch prepared by our incredible Child Nutrition Services team and performances by the East Kentwood Jazz and Marching Bands, to messages from community and Board of Education leaders, the day was filled with Falcon pride. An inspiring alumni panel, hosted by WOOD TV8’s Maranda, brought former KPS students back to share how their experiences and the educators who believed in them continue to shape their lives today.

We also welcomed Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who met with KPS educators for a conversation about literacy before joining Superintendent Kevin Polston on stage to recognize and thank our teachers and staff for the work they do each day on behalf of students.

Most of all, the day was about coming together, celebrating our KPS team, and looking ahead with excitement to everything this new school year will bring.

Now we are ready for the most important aspect of all: our students! We can’t wait to welcome them back on Monday and begin another great year together. Here's to a successful 2026-27 school year ahead!

The excitement is building! Tonight, schools across Kentwood Public Schools welcomed students and families in for the district's annual Open House. Students got to meet teachers and staff, see their classrooms, and reconnect with friends. There were plenty of smiles and hugs all around. We are so excited to welcome our students for their first day of school on Monday! Go Falcons!

There was excitement in the air today as Kentwood Public Schools staff members gathered for our annual all-staff kickoff as we prepare to welcome students back next week for the start of the 2026-27 school year!

We were honored to have Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer join us for this year's celebration. Governor Whitmer took time to recognize and thank our teachers, educators, and staff members for the difference they make each day in the lives of students and families, and wished KPS a strong and successful start to the year.

We'll have much more to share from today's celebration in the days ahead. For now, the message is simple: We can't wait to welcome our students back!

There were plenty of smiles and lots of fun last evening at Hamilton Elementary and Early Childhood Center as the school held a Back to School Bash! Games, information from community partners, activities, and food were enjoyed by all at the event. Big thanks to the Hamilton staff on their efforts and also to our many community partners who were there last night. Looking forward to the start of school on August 24! Way to go Ham Fam!! Go Falcons!
