Tomorrow let one of our neighbors cook you breakfast. North Keokuk County Fire will have their breakfast going in South English at their Fire Station starting at 7 till noon and West Chester QRS is having their breakfast as well at the Heritage building in West Chester starting at 8 and going till 1. Please support one or both of these great organizations

Today is a Red Flag warning day for fires. Please don't burn today and if you did this morning keep an eye on it today. We would really appreciate to not have another day like last Saturday.

Updated Post on our page — Red Flag Warning in effect from 10am to 9pm Saturday for Buchanan, Delaware, Benton, Linn, Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk, Washington, and Jefferson counties.

• Wind: South 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph
• Humidity: As low as 15-20%

Fire danger is extremely high, and flames can spread fast. Do not burn anything outside. Avoid any activity that could create sparks. No machinery, no tossing ci******es, no parking on dry grass. One spark is all it takes.

Yesterday we responded to 7 calls starting at around 1045 am till 945 last night on continuous fire calls. Please do not burn in this wind and if you had a brush pile burn in the last few days please gi check it. Also Thank you for your support and to the people that brought Gatorade and food to us it was greatly appreciated.

We’ve got another 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 back in place today across parts of Illinois, Iowa, and northeast Missouri.

Even though it’s cooler than yesterday, don’t let that fool you. Dry conditions are still in place, and we’ve got northerly winds gusting 25 to 35 mph. That combination can turn a small spark into a fast-moving fire, especially south of Interstate 80.

If you see smoke or fire, report it right away. Do not throw ci******es on the ground or out your window. Avoid parking over dry grass since heat from your vehicle can start a fire. Make sure trailer chains are secured so they are not dragging and throwing sparks. Keep any equipment that can create sparks well away from dry vegetation.

Stay alert out there, take this seriously, and keep anything that could throw a spark completely out of play today. It does not take much to start a fire in these conditions.

We had a couple milestones here on the department this past year. We asked Bill Halleran if he would present certificates on behalf of the Iowa Firefighters Association as well as they received memorable gifts from the department.

1st off Mike Detweiler with 50 years of service and dedication to the KFD.

2nd up if Darren Luers with 35 years of service and dedication to the KFD.

Thank you guys for your years and knowledge on the department and yes they are still clicking the years up on our department.

Thank you Bill for taking time to come over and present these awards with us.
