The City Council of the City of Kerens will hold public hearings for the 2026-2027 Budget and 2026 Tax Rate and hold a regular council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8th, 2026 at 7pm at Kerens City Hall, 101 S Colket, Kerens, TX 75144. The agenda is available for viewing at:

City Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7th, 2026 in observance of Labor Day. Normal Operations will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8th. Trash services will run on Friday, Sept. 11th, instead of Thursday that week.

Update 2:06pm - Power/phones have been restored.

Update 2:03pm - Power/phones are out at City Hall again.

Update 10:53am - Power and phones are out again. It appears that a power pole was hit in the area and there may be lines down. Oncor has been notified and is responding. Please be cautious.

Update: 9:56am - the power is back on!

Update from City Hall - City Hall is currently experiencing a power outage that is affecting our internet and phone service. The outage has been reported and the current estimate for resumption of service is 12:30pm

Please be careful if you are traveling near Roane on NE 0190; please avoid the area if possible.

2:00 PM 8/28/2026 - Fire is now at 100% Containment at 50.8 Acres. Units are being allowed to clear at this time. One VFD member was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital for observation of heat related illness.

1:35 PM 8/28/2026 UPDATE - Fire is now 85% contained with forward progress stopped. There are 25 fire apparatus units from multiple agencies, Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 County Commissioners with 2 maintainers, one private dozer, NCSO, NCOEM, TDEM, and Red Cross are all on scene. No injuries have been reported thus far. We are working to calculate acreage at this time.

12:23 PM 8/28/2026 UPDATE - Fire is now estimated over 100 acres according to on scene command.

11:55 AM 8/28/2026 - Large grass fire in progress near Roane on NE 0190 with numerous fire departments on scene and in route. Two structures and vehicles also involved. OEM Personnel are in route as well. Fire size is estimated 25-30 acres at this time. Please avoid the area if possible.

Update from City Hall - Please exercise caution at the railroad crossings - the gate arms and signals appear to be malfunctioning. Union Pacific has been notified of the issue and is sending someone out. Please exercise caution and do not attempt to cross while the gate arms are down/signals on.
