*** Incident Alert ***

Kernersville Fire Rescue Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at approximately 8:16 a.m. in the 1400 block of Glenwater Drive.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a two-story residence with smoke showing from the rear second floor. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression efforts and conducted a search to ensure all occupants had safely exited the home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

The occupants were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms, allowing them to evacuate safely prior to the arrival of fire crews. There were no injuries reported among the occupants or responding firefighters. A family of five was displaced as a result of the fire and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Kernersville Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by the Winston-Salem Fire Department and Beeson’s Crossroads Fire Department.

The fire was investigated by the Kernersville Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office, and the cause has been classified as accidental.

Kernersville Fire Rescue reminds residents that working smoke alarms are critical for early fire detection and can provide the precious seconds needed to escape safely. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of the home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Residents should test alarms monthly and replace batteries as needed to ensure they are functioning properly.

🔥🚪 Close Before You Doze 🚪🔥

Did you know something as simple as closing your bedroom door at night can help protect you and your family from fire?

Modern homes burn hotter and faster than ever because of synthetic materials and furnishings. On average, you may have only 3–5 minutes to escape a house fire. A closed door can slow the spread of flames, limit toxic smoke, and dramatically reduce temperatures inside the room from nearly 1,000 degrees to around 100 degrees.

That small habit gives firefighters more time to reach you and gives YOU more time to get out safely.

Tonight, remember:
✔️ Close bedroom doors
✔️ Make sure smoke alarms are working
✔️ Have a home escape plan

A closed door could save a life.
