The roads in our district are still extremely slick.
NC DOT does have 2 motor graders coming to our area. Be patient and allow them room to work.

Please, do not get on any frozen ponds.

⚠️ Winter Safety Reminder

As temperatures drop, please do NOT walk on frozen ponds, lakes, creeks, or pools. Ice may look solid, but it’s often thinner and weaker than it appears — putting you at serious risk of falling through and drowning.

Stay safe. Stay off the ice. ❄️🚫

🚒🐼 ATTENTION PINEY GROVE COMMUNITY 🐼🚒
School is back in session for our Piney Grove Elementary Pandas this Wednesday, and with it comes… you guessed it—the annual Piney Grove Road traffic shuffle.

Here’s what you need to know:

🚗 Car Rider Line

🚦 Congestion Alert
Piney Grove Road between will be heavily congested during drop-off (730ish–UNTIL AM) and pick-up (230ish–UNTIL). Plan ahead, slow down, and give yourself extra time.
The first couple of weeks will be T E R R I B L E & there is NO CROSSING GUARD this year. PLEASE understand this and PG Elem staff are doing everything they can to make it as smooth as possible.
Be patient.
Follow staff directions and keep the line moving at a safe speed.
Don’t block driveways or intersections
🚌 Bus Safety
Stop for buses when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is out—no exceptions.
Watch for students crossing, especially near bus stops and the school entrance.

Let’s make sure our Pandas have a safe, smooth start to the school year—on the road and in the classroom. 🐼❤️

🚨 C Shift pulled up with sirens off and drills out—because today wasn’t about fighting fires, it was about preventing them. Smoke detectors don’t install themselves, and apparently, neither do toddlers.

This kid is like
“Y’all brought two trucks and still didn’t bring snacks? Amateur hour.”

Don’t wait until you have a fire to install smoke alarms, call us TODAY! 336-993-5721

In Honor of Mrs. Irene Pruitt Shields

It is with heartfelt sympathy and deep respect that we share the passing of Mrs. Irene Elizabeth Pruitt Shields, beloved mother of our own Captain Doug Shields. Mrs. Shields passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the age of 94.

As a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church and a former school cafeteria worker, she touched countless lives with her kindness, her service, and her steady spirit. Her love for her family was evident to all. She certainly had her hands full with 3 sons who served in the fire service their whole career!

Losing a mother, someone who loved us first, and prayed for us until the end, is such a hard thing to experience but Captain Shields please know that you have another family here surrounding you with support & prayer as you navigate this time. We know you and your siblings took great care of her as did she when you all were younger.

Please remember the Shields family in your thoughts and prayers.

This morning we regret to post about 2 firefighters who were tragically hunted and killed while in the performance of their duty. An additional firefighter is recovering in the hospital. This occurred in Kootenai County, Idaho.

An individual intentionally ignited a brush fire as a lure and set up with intentions to murder first responders as they arrived to the scene. Unfortunately he was successful.

We stand with our brothers and sister in the first responder community thankful for our law enforcement counter parts as they raced to our aid as always putting themselves between the firefighters and bullets. Hundreds of them might I add.

Rest in peace to those who parished and to the families we will always stand with you honoring the memory of your loved ones by showing up to shift ready to make the ultimate sacrifice just as they did.
