** KERR COUNTY FLOOD PREPAREDNESS UPDATE **
The Kerr County Sheriff's Office is working alongside Kerr County officials and all county departments to prepare for continued flooding threats. Governor Greg Abbott signed a Disaster Declaration for Kerr County today, freeing up state resources to support our local response.
Here's what that means on the ground:
Emergency Operations Center (EOC): The Emergency Operations Center is being prepared to respond quickly if conditions warrant full activation.
Law enforcement: KCSO deputies are stationed throughout the county, and all personnel are on standby.
Fire & rescue response: Every Volunteer Fire Department in Kerr County is staffed and in direct contact with the EOC.
Camps & retreat centers: Kerr County Emergency Management has communicated with summer camps and retreat centers that may be affected by a river flooding event.
Unified monitoring: Road & Bridge, Emergency Management, KCSO Communications and Command Staff, TDEM, Precinct 1 Commissioner Jones, and others are currently tracking conditions in real time at the EOC.
What you can do now: Avoid low-water crossings. If you encounter water over the road -turn around, don't drown. Monitor local weather alerts, weather radios, the National Weather Service, and this page for updates. Be sure to have a family emergency plan ready if you live or camp near the river or streams that may rise.
