Kerr County has been released by the TAHC as a NWS Infested Zone. Here's what happens in that process...

When a NWS Infested Zone (IZ) is released, here's what happens:

1. TAHC posts a new executive order announcing the area is released.
2. Effective immediately, movement restrictions are lifted in the released area.
3. Response efforts may continue in the area, including sterile fly releases, fly trapping, and animal inspections.
4. Producers remain vigilant and continue to regularly check their animals.

Zone releases mark an important milestone, but it doesn't mean the risk is gone. Keep checking animals regularly, practice NWS prevention, and report suspected cases right away. These activities help detect problems early and protect Texas livestock, wildlife, and other animals from NWS.

Kerr County has been released from the Texas Animal Health Commission as a New World Screwworm (NWS) Infested Zone!

AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) executive director officially released movement restrictions for areas of Texas previously deemed as New World screwworm (NWS) Infested Zones. Following months of coordinated surveillance and eradication activities, designated areas of Gillespie, Kerr, Kimble, La Salle, and Webb Counties were released from New World Screwworm (NWS) movement restrictions on August 31, 2026, marking a significant milestone in Texas' ongoing NWS response.

Another Kerr County office is heading home! The Kerr County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office will return to the Kerr County Courthouse next week.

There will be 𝗡𝗢 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗨𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 to the public at the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, 510 College Street in Ingram, while courthouse staff move back to their offices.

🎉 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁. 𝟯 — 𝗥𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚!
The Tax Office will be back serving citizens in Suite 124 at the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville on Thursday, Sept. 3. (Note: The reopening is contingent on DMV technology updates being completed successfully by state.)

🕒 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴. 𝟯𝟭 — The County Clerk’s Office will 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗟𝗬 at 3 p.m. at its temporary location at the Hill Country Youth Event Center.

🚚 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁. 𝟭 — The office will be 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗔𝗬 while staff moves furniture and equipment back to the courthouse.

Kerr County is launching a 𝟯-𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 to help remove Construction & Demolition (C&D) debris resulting from the July 16 flood and subsequent cleanup and repairs.

🗑️ 𝗡𝗢 𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗚𝗔𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗚𝗘! The Kerr County Sheriff's Office has a 𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗢 𝗧𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 policy for anyone illegally dumping household garbage in with flood debris.

Good morning, Kerr County! School is back in session, and that means time to slow down and stay alert, especially on the back roads and near our school zones.

Remember, school zone speed limits (often 20 mph when lights are flashing) apply when posted. Yeah, you'll have to slow down for a block or two. It's a small sacrifice for proven safety outcomes. Trust us, you don't want to be part of the scene of kid-vs-auto.

Here are a few more quick reminders:

Slow down near bus stops and be ready to stop when lights are flashing. If you see a school bus with the stop lights deployed, those are there to get your attention and make you stop (on both sides of the road). If those little red flashing signs don't get your attention, we may deploy an attention-getting citation.

Be sure to watch for kids walking or biking along the shoulder, especially in low light. It's hard enough going uphill both ways to school - don't make it a safety hazard, too.

Put the phone down, a few seconds of distraction is all it takes for a life-changing accident you could have prevented. There is no text, emoji, like, or selfie worth harming someone carelessly. Online popularity cuts both ways, and that selfie will hit different if you hit a person.

Keep an eye out for crossing guards and always yield to them. We know you have places to be. So do our school kids. We'd like both of you to get there safely.

Our deputies will be out and about keeping an eye on things around our schools and bus routes. Let's all work together to get our kids to and from school safely this year.

For all you parents - high five - you made it through (another) challenging summer in our valley. Congrats to the students starting new things and new adventures in Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, and Center Point ISDs.
