This last week all 3 shifts got to work on search drills, techniques, and RIT scenarios at the old PVSD Administration Building.

A Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) or Crew (RIC) is a specialized team of firefighters assigned at a structure fire solely to locate and rescue lost or trapped firefighters.

Thank you Platte Valley School District for this incredibly valuable opportunity!

At our annual Awards Banquet last Friday, we had the privilege of honoring Chief Jim Klug with the Dan Buderus “Making a Difference” Award—a recognition reserved for those who truly leave an organization better than they found it.

Chief Klug’s impact on Platte Valley goes far beyond titles or daily tasks. What we do know is the lasting difference he has made—through his unwavering dedication to his people, his commitment to building a strong and supportive culture, and his ability to lead with both vision and accountability.

Under his leadership, Platte Valley has grown stronger, more connected, and more respected—not just within our walls, but across the region. He has truly put our organization on the map.

While we are incredibly proud as he begins his next chapter out of state, his absence will be deeply felt. The culture he built and the standard he set will continue to guide us moving forward.

Thank you, Chief, for your leadership, your heart, and for making a difference that will last.

Congratulations—you will be greatly missed.

The Chief’s Award is a little different than our other recognitions. It’s selected by the Chief Staff and isn’t based on a checklist… it’s about impact. It’s about someone who truly embodies our mission, our values, and what it means to make a difference in this organization.

This year’s recipient has done exactly that… in a relatively short amount of time.

From the moment Erin Emmans joined the Platte Valley Fire family, she stepped in during a time of transition and immediately made an impact. She didn’t just find her place… she made the place better.

She built strong relationships quickly, earning trust and respect across the organization. She shows up every day with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to take on any challenge in front of her. She leans into new opportunities and constantly looks for ways to improve how we operate.

Because of that, she has already played a key role in helping move this organization forward.

She has been a steady presence for our Officer staff and our entire membership, supporting them in their mission to serve this community.

Simply put… she has elevated this organization in a meaningful way, and there is no doubt she will continue to do so.

Proud to recognize Erin Emmans as the 2025 Chief’s Award recipient.

The District Values Award is one of the most meaningful recognitions we give… because it comes from within. It’s based on nominations from the people who work side by side, day in and day out. That makes it different. It makes it real.

This award recognizes someone who doesn’t just talk about our values… he lives them.

Firefighter Jason Beatty is the kind of person who makes a culture strong without ever trying to be the center of attention. He shows up, does the job the right way, and makes everyone around him better in the process.

He takes care of people… our community, our patients, and our members… with genuine compassion and respect.

He invests in his team… staying up late to teach, taking time to mentor, and always stepping up when it matters.

He leads with character… quietly, consistently, and with integrity.

And he brings professionalism to everything he does… preparing, training, and always working to improve.

What stands out most is this… he represents the best of who we are, and he helps shape who we are becoming.

Proud to recognize Firefighter Jason Beatty as the 2025 District Values Award recipient.

Please join us on May 20th from 08:55 AM to 11:00 AM as we gather to say farewell to our Fire Chief, James Klug.

During his nearly five years as Fire Chief, Chief Klug has shaped the culture of this organization into one grounded in trust, accountability, and professionalism. He has led with integrity, compassion, and humility—never asking more of others than he was willing to give himself.

He consistently chose to believe in his people, offering patience, grace, and the benefit of the doubt. He fostered an environment where individuals were encouraged to grow, learn from mistakes, and continuously improve. He stood firm in his values, never tolerating poor treatment within the department, and always leading by example.

Chief Klug’s legacy will not be defined solely by his accomplishments but by the people he has mentored, supported, and inspired. The standards he set and the lessons he instilled will continue to guide this organization for years to come.

While this farewell is bittersweet, it is also an opportunity to come together, reflect on his impact, and express our sincere gratitude. We invite you to join us in wishing Chief Klug the very best as he begins this next chapter.

Today, on Administrative Professionals Day, I want to take a moment to recognize two incredible professionals who are truly the backbone of our organization.

Erin Emmans, our Business Operations Manager, and Gina Tenuta, our Business Operations Specialist, are the steady force behind everything we do. While our crews are out serving the community, Erin and Gina are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Platte Valley Fire moving forward.

They are the support system for our members, the problem-solvers, the organizers, and the ones who make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Their dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to this department does not go unnoticed.

Simply put, we could not do what we do without them.

Erin and Gina, thank you for everything you do for our team and the community we are proud to serve. We are grateful for you today and every day.

Happy 9-year work anniversary to Battalion Chief Fossen!

Over the past nine years, Chief Fossen has been a steady leader and a dedicated member of the Platte Valley team, consistently demonstrating commitment and a strong sense of service. Alongside Dusty (BC Fossen's Dog), the two have become quite the unforgettable duo at Platte Valley, frequently deploying with Colorado Task Force 1 to assist with search and rescue efforts across the country—including most recently during the flooding in Texas. Their willingness to step up and serve wherever they’re needed speaks volumes about their character and dedication to this profession.

Chief Fossen’s leadership, experience, and ability to guide those around him have made a lasting impact on this organization. Whether it’s on a local call or a large-scale deployment, he brings a level of consistency and dependability that helps keep our team moving.

Thank you for nine years of hard work, leadership, and commitment to Platte Valley. We truly appreciate everything you do and are proud to have you as part of our team.
