Today, on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Awareness Day, we honor the lives of Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit people, and all relatives who have been taken too soon.

This day is not only about awareness. It is about truth, accountability, and the ongoing impact this crisis has on our families, our students, and our Tribal Nations and Native communities.

In education spaces, we see the ripple effects. Grief that enters classrooms. Students carrying loss that is too often unseen. Communities navigating trauma while continuing to show up for the next generation.

At NIEA, we stand with families and communities calling for justice, visibility, and change. We remain committed to this work through education, advocacy, and by uplifting Native voices and stories.

We remember. We honor. We continue forward with purpose.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers commended the UW Law Indigenous Law Students Association for organizing the 40th Coming Together of Peoples Conference. The yearly event is the longest-running student-led conference in the country, bringing together tribal leaders, practitioners, scholars, students and community members for four decades of dialogue, learning and relationship-building.
