Timberland Invasives Partnership

Timberland Invasives Partnership Timberland Invasives Partnership (TIP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to controlling invasives species across its four-county management area.

Timberland Invasives Partnership (TIP) is what is known as a Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA). The purpose of CISMAs like TIP is to combat invasive species and the negative effects they have on the ecological and economic well-being of the communities they infest. TIP itself was established with the help of the US Forest Service in 2012. Since that time it has been working to b

uild a cooperative partnership between State, Federal, Tribal, and local governments as well as individuals and organizations to help combat invasive species in Langlade, Menominee, Oconto and Shawano Counties. To ensure a successful partnership, TIP has each of its partners sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) indicating that the partners agree that it is their mutual benefit and interest to work cooperatively to manage invasive species across jurisdictional boundaries within the TIP CISMA.

๐Ÿ’š Thank You! ๐Ÿ’š

Last week, Timberland Invasives Partnership hosted a garlic mustard pull at Springbrook Trail, and weโ€™re incredibly thankful for the support from our community!

With the help of 10 volunteers from Wild Ones Northwoods Gateway Chapter, Langlade County Conservation, and Langlade County Forestry, we were able to remove nearly 18 bags of invasive garlic mustard and help protect the native plant communities along the trail.

Garlic mustard spreads quickly through wooded areas and crowds out important native species, so volunteer efforts like this play a major role in keeping our forests healthy.

Thank you again to everyone who donated their time and effort to support local conservation work. We appreciate your commitment to protecting our natural areas!

Today is World Bee Day!๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’›

Bees are small (but mighty) pollinators that are essential to healthy ecosystems. Habitat loss and invasive species continue to threaten their homes.

Timberland Invasives Partnership works to control and remove invasive species that crowd out native wildflowers and reduce critical habitat for bees and other pollinators.

Lesser celandine looks cheerful with bright yellow flowers, but this invasive spring plant spreads aggressively and can completely take over woodland floors and wetlands. Originally introduced as an ornamental plant, it now threatens native spring wildflowers and sensitive habitats.

No Mow May is here!๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒท

No Mow May is a campaign that raises awareness for pollinator conservation. By skipping mowing for the month, you're giving bees and other pollinators a much-needed boost as they emerge from winter dormancy. Letting your lawn grow provides flowering weeds, like clover and violets, to provide early-season nectar and pollen.

Reducing mowing, even temporarily, can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions - another benefit to the campaign!

While No Mow May can provide short-term benefits to pollinators, long-term ecosystem health depends on diverse, native plants. TIP works to control invasive species and restore native habitats, helping ensure pollinators have what they need to thrive all season long.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:
๐ŸŒฟ If your lawn doesnโ€™t have flowering weeds, it wonโ€™t provide much benefit to pollinators
๐ŸŒฟ Try โ€œlow mowโ€ instead! You can set your mower places at 3-4 inches to allow low-growing flowers like clover and dandelions to bloom
๐ŸŒฟ Reduce how often you mow throughout the season
๐ŸŒฟ Consider replacing small sections of lawn with native flowering plants for long-term impact

โš ๏ธ Before you participate: Be sure to check with your city or town for any local ordinances related to grass or lawn height. Some communities have regulations in place, so itโ€™s important to make sure your yard stays in compliance while supporting pollinators.

Every little change helps support healthier ecosystems and stronger pollinator populations. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒฟ Itโ€™s Earth Day!

Did you know invasive species are one of the biggest threats to our local ecosystems? They outcompete native species and reduce wildlife habitat and biodiversity.

Timberland Invasives Partnership works to protect Northeast Wisconsin by controlling invasive species and restoring healthy ecosystems.

Looking for ways to make a difference? Check out The Nature Conservancy's Earth Day Guide: https://www.nature.org/en-us/membership-and-giving/earth-day-guide/

Weโ€™re proud of the work we do every day. If youโ€™d like to support invasive species management, education, and restoration in your community, donations are always appreciated ๐Ÿ’š

Spotted this garlic mustard plant and pulled it root and allโ€”just how we like it! ๐Ÿ‘โฃ
โฃ
Early to mid-April is the perfect time to look for and tackle garlic mustard. The soil is still soft, making it easier to remove the entire root system before the plant flowers and sets seed.โฃ

โ€ข Pull the whole plant, including the rootโฃ
โ€ข Shake off excess soilโฃ
โ€ข Leave it roots-up to dry if there are no flowers yetโฃ
