East Rivanna Volunteer Fire Company is proud to provide standby coverage for the Charlottesville Marathon today! Our Gator 2 and ATV 2 were staged along the course to provide rapid medical response on trails and greenways where traditional apparatus can’t easily reach.

These units allow our crews to get to patients quickly with medical equipment, a stretcher, and supplies β€” even in off-road and hard-to-access areas along the route.

Great job to all the runners and to everyone who helped make the event a safe one!

We want to take a moment to recognize and thank Albemarle County Fire Rescue Logistics for the recent overhaul of our 2007 Ford F550 brush truck.

This wasn’t just a quick refresh. The truck received a brand new aluminum bed, a full console reconfiguration, complete ground rewiring with a new lighting package, and a rebuilt front bumper. The result is a clean, modernized apparatus that’s ready to keep working.

Logistics spent roughly three months coordinating vendors for the bed replacement and then went line by line through the truck, reworking every detail of the setup. That level of effort shows. This rebuild saved tens of thousands of dollars compared to replacing the unit outright, while preserving a solid, low-mile truck that still has a lot of life left in it.

We’re grateful to have a team like Logistics supporting projects like this.

This evening, a handful of our most dedicated members put in the hours to get the truck fully back in service at the station. It’s now ready to respond and serve the citizens of Albemarle once again.

We want to extend a huge thank you to our community for the exceptional turnout at our 2nd Annual Santa Parade through Glenmore and Rivanna Village, followed by our annual Santa at the Firehouse event.

The support was outstanding. We welcomed over 400 community members, with 80 children visiting with Santa - a record turnout and a clear sign of how much these traditions mean to our area. Seeing families line the streets, wave, and fill the firehouse is exactly why we do this.

Events like these aren’t just festive. They strengthen the connection between the fire company and the community we serve, and they remind us how fortunate we are to be supported by such an engaged and generous group of neighbors.

Shoutout to Kirsten Guthrie and Captain Sadikoglu for the planning and preparation that made the parade and Santa at the Firehouse event run smoothly.

Thank you for making this year’s events such a success.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram so you’ll be the first to know when Santa returns next year.

Friday night, our fire family gathered at Keswick Hunt Club for our annual Christmas Party and Awards Ceremony - one of the most important events we hold each year. This night isn’t just about awards. It’s about stepping back from the pace of calls and training to recognize the people behind the pager and the work that keeps this organization moving forward.

The turnout was phenomenal, and that matters. In a volunteer fire company, showing up for each other outside of emergencies is just as important as showing up on scene. This annual gathering reinforces who we are as an agency - connected, committed, and proud of the work we do together. It builds morale, strengthens trust, and reminds every member that their time, sacrifice, and professionalism are recognized and valued. Nights like this directly support the cohesion and resilience that carry over into how we operate in the field.
