First City Homeless Services regrets to inform the public that as a result of our City Council not renewing our lease at 632 Park Avenue, we unfortunately will no longer be able to provide overnight emergency services for our homeless populations for the foreseeable future. We will continue to offer shelter and services from 8am-8pm as we work to move out of our current location.

In response to the end of our lease, FCHS is in the process of purchasing a new building in which we hope to resume providing 24/7 services by early 2026.

In the meantime, we are still looking for a temporary location from which to provide supportive day services out of. As soon as that plan is solidified, we will let you all know!

Losing this facility is a tragedy to the hundreds of people who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, those who are at risk of homelessness and the entire community of Ketchikan. We appreciate your support and patience as we work to figure out our next steps in how to continue offering safety, connection and opportunities to our most vulnerable populations!

People love having the ability to choose!

These individuals volunteered to pick up trash and in return, they received gift cards out of the Shelter Store! They can now do their own shopping and choose things that are important to them.

Programs like this encourage people to participant and fills idle time. It teaches them the fundamentals of pre-employment skills and supports the basic ideas of providing for oneself.

The answer we get from so many of our participants after they have completed a task is, “How else can I help?”

Success!

Members of Ketchikan Youth for Change created this video to start a conversation about what it would look like for our community without low barrier services and how the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals influences what local law enforcement can and cannot do without them.
