I am running for council this year and I am asking for your support and Vote.
If I am elected I promise to keep my promises.
These are some of my positions and I will work hard with the council to make the Tribe better and the council more responsible to the members. I will advocate for more openness and more participation on committees for Tribal members. I will advocate for more doctors and nurses and pay them enough to want to stay longer than 6 months. I will make this promise, I will work hard to make sure the council is providing and making decisions that consider the needs of all Tribal members.
My primary position is to help KIC provide the best possible service to our Tribal Members.
There are many fine things KIC does and that should not be lost in the few areas we can improve on.
• Reduce doctor turnover by finding ways of keeping them, (better housing, a comprehensive compensation package, more involvement in our Tribal community.)
• Develop a comprehensive needs plan for our Veterans and our Elderly. A committee of Elders and Veterans should be established so we can hear their concerns and start addressing them properly.
• Implement or build on an Elder Interaction Program to teach our children the values and traditions of our Native way of life.
• Implement a comprehensive burial program that supports our Tribal Members in their time of need. I realize that KIC can’t fund the full cost but perhaps a $500. Automatic donation will go a long way to easing some of the burden of this difficult time.
• Include Tribal Members on the committees, so the Council can always have Tribal Members’ perspective on all issues. Tribal Government should always hear the issues of the Tribal membership and make decisions based on their needs to better tailor our programs to provide better service..
• We need to better define our role as a Tribal community concerning our drug and alcohol problems, (treatment facility, outreach, counseling). Maybe the health board creates a subcommittee that recommends a better way to confront these issues.
• Advocate to have the State recognize our rights to take and preserve our traditional foods.
• Advocate for the Tribe to have authority to issue our hunting and fishing licenses and subsistence permits under the Tribe’s regulations.
• Develop a travel budget for each member of Council, define a number that they cannot exceed and that will make everyone prioritize their travel more closely.
