In this week's "Friday Firebird Focus," Supt. McCarty-Stewart invites those who have not had a chance to complete the Educational Visioning Community Input Survey to do so, before we reveal the results of the survey at the October 26, Community Forum.

The newsletter also includes information about next week's YouScience Family Night. Upper-grade elementary and middle school students and their parents/guardians are invited to an evening of exploration on October 21, when students will have the opportunity to explore exciting careers, connect with local businesses and community partners, and learn how KCS and YouScience help students discover career pathways and prepare for success.

There is also lots of info on School & Community Events and Activities taking place over the next few weeks.

Our Firebird Hope Squads had an incredible opportunity to join more than 1,600 students from 28 Dayton-area middle and high schools at UD Arena for a special event hosted by CareSource and University of Dayton Athletics!

The day was filled with energy, excitement, on-court competitions and powerful messages about the importance of mental health, supporting one another and knowing it's okay to ask for help.

Our Hope Squad students play an important role in creating a culture of kindness, connection and belonging throughout our schools. Opportunities like this remind us that no one has to face life's challenges alone.

We are proud of our Firebirds for continuing to spread hope and make a difference💙

In late August, we held our first Educational Visioning Committee meeting, kicking off the design process for constructing a brand-new Kettering Fairmont Middle School and a new academic building for Fairmont High School—Segment One of our Future-Ready Facilities Plan.

Educational Visioning brings together KCS staff, students, parents, and community members to evaluate our current learning environments and define how future spaces should evolve—prioritizing safe, flexible, inclusive, and adaptable designs for our Firebirds.

True to our commitment to keep the Kettering community informed, involved, and engaged, we want to hear from you before we begin tabulating our initial findings. We are just a little over a week away from our next Community Forum, where we will present early results from our Educational Visioning Community Feedback Survey.

If you haven't yet weighed in, we want to ensure your voice is included! Please take a moment to share your thoughtful input using the Google Survey link below. The survey will remain open through next Thursday, October 22.

From Fairmont student to local artist making his mark right here in Kettering!

The new mural in the Kettering Fairmont Middle School cafeteria is officially complete and the final result is incredible!

Created by 2003 Fairmont graduate David Uy, founder of David Jonathan Creative, the mural brings color, energy and personality to the new grab-and-go à la carte area created by our Food & Nutrition Services Department.

What makes it even more special is the full-circle story behind it. David’s passion for art was encouraged and developed right here in Kettering City Schools, and now he has returned to share his talents with a new generation of Firebirds.

The mural has quickly become a favorite among students, staff and community members and we love seeing hometown talent leave such a vibrant mark on our schools.

Thank you, David, for bringing this vision to life and reminding our students that their talents and passions can take them incredible places, sometimes even right back home💙

A favorite Van Buren MS tradition is continuing at Kettering Fairmont Middle School, as we gear up for the annual POINSETTIA SALE!
Every plant sold helps support our KFMS students by funding PBIS incentives, scholarships, and an exciting school carnival.
The sale runs from Tuesday, October 13, to Thursday, October 29, with plant pickup set for December 4 and 5, just in time for your holiday decorating and gift-giving!

Every day, our Food & Nutrition team serves up more than breakfast and lunch. They greet our students, share smiles, lend a helping hand and make our schools feel a little more like home.

What an exciting day at Trent Arena as we welcomed Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge to Kettering City Schools!

Our Firebirds joined students from Northmont for a fun and inspiring visit focused on building healthy habits, setting goals, and becoming the best versions of ourselves!

The Team Tressel Fitness Challenge encourages students in grades 3–8 to develop lifelong habits through fitness, nutrition, sleep, mental wellness, goal setting, and an attitude of gratitude.

It’s about more than staying active, it’s about building confidence, self-discipline, and the skills to succeed in the classroom and beyond!

A huge thank you to Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and his team for bringing this exciting opportunity to our students and reminding us that healthy habits today help build brighter futures tomorrow!

Firebirds are ready to rise to the challenge!
