The week of June 8, was the Kettering Schools Week to host the Partners for Healthy Youth (PFHY) Summer Food Program at The Trails and Van Buren Park.

And while we love being able to host these sites, the real heroes of this story last week are our incredible community partners. Without their overwhelming generosity, none of this would be possible.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to:

* Reynolds and Reynolds
* LIFE Baptist Church
* Day Air Credit Union
* Blueberry Cafe, and
* The Fisher Family

They didn’t just provide 100% of the food—they brought the camaraderie, the laughter, and the unwavering support that makes Kettering such a special place to live. Seeing our community come together to wrap its arms around our kids each day is truly inspiring.

Just a reminder that the PFHY Summer Food Program runs weekly (except Jun 29-July 4 in observance of the July 4th Holiday) at The Trails (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and Van Buren Park (Tuesday and Thursday), from noon- 2 p.m. (food served noon-1 p.m.)

UPDATE—

With all the work our buildings and grounds team is doing to move our VB staff to their new home on the Kettering Fairmont Middle School campus, they have not been able to get the bricks moved from inside the school to the parking lot.

They anticipate the bricks will be moved outside to the Schuyler parking lot by Friday of this coming week.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

*****

Thank you to everyone who came out this week to help us celebrate Van Buren Middle School and to take one last walk through the halls of the school!

We appreciate the kind words of former Van Buren principals, Bob McCoy and Lowell Vorpe, who took us for a quick walk down memory lane with their comments.

And a huge thank you to Natalie Snell, outgoing VBMS principal and one of our co-principals of Kettering Fairmont Middle School. Her heartfelt remarks perfectly captured the bittersweet excitement so many of us are feeling as we close this chapter of our middle school history and look ahead with great anticipation to the next!

DID YOU PURCHASE A BRICK FROM THE VAN BUREN PTA BACK IN THE DAY? If you were not able to attend the Open House on June 10, and pick up your brick, the skids of bricks will be moved to the parking lot behind Van Buren MIddle School (off Schuyler Road), where you can stop by and pick up yours or your family's!

GOOD LUCK to Fairmont athlete, Violet Wright!

Violet is headed to Columbus to compete tomorrow in the 2026 OHSAA Outdoor Track & Field State Championships at Jesse Owens Stadium. She will compete in the 100m and 300m hurdles events.

Thank you to Cox Arboretum for hosting the 2026 KCS Administrative Retreat this week!

The administrative team wrapped up the retreat on Tuesday, and let’s just say—the future of KCS Firebirds is in excellent hands!

Because a team that can laugh together grows and succeeds together, we made sure to have some fun embracing our "Mission Possible" theme! At the same time, we focused on some deep reflection of the 2025-2026 school year and strategic planning as we look toward the 2026-2027 year ahead.

We spent our time analyzing critical student data and mapping out key district initiatives, including a focus on:
* Early Literacy & Math -- Tracking and boosting 3rd-grade reading and 8th-grade math proficiency.
* The Student Journey -- Addressing chronic absenteeism and continuing to focus on the importance of our high school graduation rates.
* Future Readiness -- Exploring student career interests and aptitudes to prepare our Firebirds for all post-secondary options, whether they are heading to college or straight into the workforce.

Everything we do as an administrative team is intentionally aligned with our Portrait of a Firebird attributes, as we are fully committed to shaping students who are:
* Lifelong Learners
* Global Citizens
* Critical Thinkers
* Thoughtful Communicators, and
* Engaged Collaborators

There are a lot of exciting things to look forward to in the Kettering City Schools as we celebrate our new Kettering Fairmont Middle School, begin Segment One of our Future-Ready Facilities Plan, and continue to support strong academic, social-emotional and extracurricular opportunities for every Kettering student.

We are energized, aligned, and ready to make the upcoming school year the best one yet.

Mission: Accepted!

Get your rackets ready, Kettering!

Blue skies are back after a very soggy May, and that means Heiberger Paving, Inc., has been back at it and hard at work on the resurfacing project at the Fairmont High School Tennis Courts.

The newly resurfaced, bright sky-blue tennis courts are getting their finishing touches this week. We anticipate the courts will reopen to the community next week, so be sure to tag your favorite tennis partner!
