Community & Culture Forum: Connecting Our Community to Resources

At One Lincoln Park, we believe staying informed and connected is an important part of living well. As part of our Community & Culture Forum, we welcomed Doug McGarry to speak with our residents about the important work of the Area Agency on Aging, PSA 2 and the many ways they can support older adults and their families.

Ohio has 12 Area Agencies on Aging serving communities across the state, connecting older adults and caregivers with local services and resources. The Area Agency on Aging can also be a valuable resource for family members and caregivers who may have questions or simply aren't sure where to turn. They can help families navigate available services and connect them with resources that fit their needs.

We are grateful to Doug for taking the time to share this valuable information with our residents and for helping us continue to learn, connect, and support one another here at One Lincoln Park!

Have you read the latest article written by One Lincoln Park Executive Director Tricia Atwood?

Her article, “Successful Aging: Building a Longer, Healthier, More Connected Life,” is featured in the latest South CW Neighbors magazine and is also available online. Tricia shares practical insights on successful aging, emphasizing the importance of staying active, nourishing our bodies, maintaining meaningful connections, and keeping our minds engaged.

It’s a thoughtful reminder that successful aging isn’t just about adding years to life—it’s about adding life to those years.

Successful aging is about more than adding years to life. It is about adding life to those years — maintaining independence, purpose, connection and well-being as we grow older.

Patio Beer Garden Party!

Our residents had a wonderful time enjoying an afternoon on the patio with good friends, great conversation, and the chance to try some new beers! We paired the tasting with a delicious plate of gourmet mac & cheese topped with BBQ pulled chicken—talk about the perfect comfort-food combination!

There’s nothing better than gathering together, trying something new, and making memories with friends. Cheers to good times and great community!

What an incredible day at our very first One Lincoln Park Fest!

Our community came together for a day filled with fun, laughter, and purpose as we raised money to support the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. From start to finish, OLP Fest was packed with activities that brought smiles to everyone's faces!

Guests enjoyed:
- An amazing resident and staff Talent Show — congratulations to our winner, Senior Solutions Specialist, Adam Jacomet!
- Live music featuring our very own Transportation Driver, Gary Jackson, and his band, Locking Up Otis
- A goat petting zoo that quickly became everyone's favorite attraction!
- Fresh lemonade, delicious ice cream, and great food
- Crafts, face painting, bocce ball, co****le, shuffleboard, pie-in-the-face fun, and so much more!

It was an amazing first OLP Fest filled with community, connection, and fun—all while supporting an important cause.

Our Better Than Ever Wellness Series continued with our Better When Staying Active event, where guests learned why staying active is so important for maintaining strength, independence, and overall well-being as we age.

We were honored to welcome Becky Cobb, founder and owner of Personally Fit, a Dayton-based personal training and wellness center. With more than 40 years of experience helping individuals improve their health and fitness, Becky is certified through ACSM, IIN, and FMS. Her passion for empowering others to live healthier, more active lives was evident as she shared practical tips, easy exercises, and simple ways seniors can build strength, improve balance, and stay active every day.

Guests also had the opportunity to learn about the many ways residents at One Lincoln Park stay moving and engaged. From yoga, tai chi, Strength & Stamina, and volleyball to outdoor favorites like shuffleboard and bocce ball, there are countless opportunities to stay active while having fun, building confidence, and creating meaningful friendships.

We’re honored to share that One Lincoln Park has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report with four 2026 Best Senior Living awards!

For the second consecutive year, we've been named a Best Independent Living Community, while also earning High Performing accolades for Management & Staff, Activities & Enrichment, and Feels Like Home.

As Executive Director Tricia Atwood shared, "To be recognized not only for Independent Living, but also for the experience our residents have with our staff, activities, and sense of home, is truly meaningful. These awards reflect the compassion, commitment, and heart our team brings to the community every day."

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we're incredibly grateful to our residents, families, and dedicated team for making One Lincoln Park a place where people don't just live—they live better longer!

Thank you to OLP resident Dan Weiner for gifting our community a one‑of‑a‑kind fiberglass car sculpture! Originally created for the City of Kettering’s 2002 anniversary gala and painted by the Dayton Daily News Editorial Art Department, the "Car-toons" piece has found a new home on the south side of our building.

We recently unveiled the sculpture, shared a few words, enjoyed refreshments, and celebrated Dan’s generosity. It’s a wonderful addition to our campus and a reminder of the creativity and community spirit that make OLP special.

Who says motorcycles are just for the young?

Age is just a number, and one of our residents proved that adventure doesn't have an expiration date! She hopped on the back of her son's motorcycle for a ride, showing us all that you're never too old to enjoy a little excitement.

At One Lincoln Park, we love seeing our residents continue doing the things they enjoy—and maybe even surprising us along the way!

Way to ride in style!

This month, One Lincoln Park was honored to host our Community & Culture Forum, "Welcoming Returning Citizens: Why It Matters."

We were privileged to welcome representatives from the Montgomery County Office of Reentry, along with U.S. District Court Judge Walter H. Rice, Magistrate Bonnie Beaman Rice (Ret.), Miamisburg Chief of Police, and a Dayton business owner who shared his own inspiring journey through the program.

The panel discussed the challenges individuals face when returning to the community after incarceration, the importance of second chances, and how collaboration, support, and opportunity can help reduce recidivism and build stronger, safer communities.

At One Lincoln Park, we believe meaningful conversations like these help us better understand the world around us and foster a culture of compassion, lifelong learning, and connection. Thank you to all of our speakers for sharing your knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with our residents.
