These ladies are the inaugural recipients of the Orgullo Hispano Scholarship. These $1000 scholarships were awarded by the Kewanee Hispanic Heritage Committee as part of the Kewanee Commission on Human Relations. The Heritage Committee has received donations for their events and wanted to give back excess funds to the Hispanic Community. Students were asked to write an essay and winners were chosen from those. We are proud to have these ladies Itzel Rivas and Jzahbel Rivera as part of our community and wish them the best of luck in their futures.Congratulations!

Congratulations to our newly promoted and sworn in Fire Chief, Jacob Forney, Captain Joe Rediger and Lieutenant Andrew Welgat and Engineer,Shawn Frank. We are so proud of our Kewanee Fire Department. Our city has a great group of men on our department. They work hard which is symbolized by their professionalism to do and ability to do the job well.

Bree has taught in Kewanee for 20 years and in total she has taught for 25 years. She has her masters degree and has been awarded the “My Favorite Teacher” for news channel 8 in 2022 and “The Master Teacher” of the Quad Cities in 2016.

Congratulations to the Wethersfield Junior High 7th and 8th grade track team for girls placing 4th at state and the 7th and 8th grade boys placing 7th at state and a lot of personal best and 1st place finishing for several students. We are so proud of all of these young athletes. Every child on the team medaled at state out of 32 athletes. They were in 19 events total.
