Corn silage is coming off the fields this week in Kewaunee County. This is what happens to the chopped corn when it arrives at the farm! Chopped corn is pushed into a pile and driven over by heavy tractors to push the air out of the feed. Once the bunker is full, it will be covered with heavy plastic (to make an air tight seal) and tires (to keep the plastic tight against the feed) to start the fermenting process. The corn silage will be ready to feed to the cows in a few weeks.
