Local 5 Live visits Kewaunee County this week for "Our Town" and you're invited to be part of the LIVE audience on Friday, July 23 from 9AM-10AM at Harbor Park in Kewaunee. Green Bay area news station WLUK-TV FOX 11 stopped by Crescent Beach in Algoma on Monday, July 5, 2021 to check out the saying ‘cooler by the lake’ and found visitors and area residents alike enjoying the sand and surf of Lake Michigan.
With Northeast Wisconsin’s weather being hazy, hot, and humid for the better part July 2021 so far, a trip to the beach to cool off is a welcome reprieve. Kewaunee County is home to two wonderful public beaches where you can do just that.
Crescent Beach in Algoma sits right in the middle of town on State HWY 42 (Lake St.) and sports a half-mile wheelchair accessible boardwalk complete with benches, a changing station and restroom access in the Algoma Area Chamber/Visitor Center at the southern end and at Heritage Park at the northern end. Picnic tables dot the hillside and there are volleyball nets to add to your rest, relaxation, or recreation.
Selner Park & Beach in the City of Kewaunee has a boardwalk, a grassy, shaded area, volleyball net, picnic tables, sand as far as the eye can see along with a birds-eye view of the Kewaunee Lighthouse. Attached to the public restrooms is a pavilion overlooking the beach.
Both beaches are open to the public, free to use, and bring thousands of people to the lakeshore each year.
According to the Algoma Visitor Center (VC) located at 1226 Lake St. in Algoma, 2021 visitor counts are steadily climbing up and that is great news for the county’s businesses. The volunteers and staff at the VC regularly hear visitors say they are hooked on the area and either will be back to visit or they want to move here.
Clearly Kewaunee County’s beaches are a wonderful asset to the area!
