The Friends of Cape Florida State Park, Inc. was established to support the Park and to help conserve and enhance the wildlife and other resources.

is a 501c3 corporation and was established in 2000 to provide support to the Park and to help conserve and enhance the wildlife and other resources of the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The Friends of Cape Florida, Inc. have become a repository for contributions from individuals, organizations, and businesses. All funds contributed to the Friends of Cape Florida Inc, .by membership or donatio

n, remain at the Park and are expended under the authority of the Board of Directors. The Board consists of local citizens who love the Park. Donations to the Friends of Cape Florida State will be used to directly support the Park in its mission to provide quality resource-based recreation through visitor services, interpretive programs, and Lighthouse exhibits. These generous donations, have benefited the Park, its visitors and our community in allowing us to help fund turtle nesting monitoring program, bird banding station, Interpretive Walks, Beach cleanup programs, Community Outreach programs, Lighthouse Interpretative exhibits, Children’s programs in the Park and much more. Please consider supporting this important organization through donating or purchasing a membership in the Friends of Cape Florida, Inc.

Happy National Lighthouse Day! 🌊🗼

Today, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Friends of Cape Florida celebrate the iconic Cape Florida Lighthouse—a treasured symbol of history, resilience, and our island community.

For more than 200 years, this beloved landmark has stood watch over the shores of Key Biscayne, guiding generations and connecting us to the stories of those who came before us.

We are deeply grateful to the park team, volunteers, members, donors, partners, and visitors who help preserve and protect the lighthouse and the beautiful natural surroundings it calls home.

Here’s to honoring its remarkable past and ensuring its light continues to inspire generations to come. Happy National Lighthouse Day!

Join us this Saturday for our monthly Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park Cleanup! 💚

Spend the morning outdoors with fellow park lovers as we help remove trash and marine debris from our beaches and grounds, protect local wildlife, and keep this special place beautiful for everyone who visits.

Today, on World Ranger Day, we celebrate the extraordinary park rangers who dedicate their lives to protecting our natural and cultural treasures.

At Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, our rangers are caretakers, educators, first responders, historians, and conservationists. They protect wildlife and sea turtle nests, preserve our historic Cape Florida Lighthouse, welcome visitors from around the world, and work tirelessly to ensure this special place can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Today, we also pause to remember our friend and colleague, Ranger W***y Philippe. His kindness, dedication, and love for this park touched countless lives. His legacy continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him and reminds us of the profound difference one ranger can make.

To every ranger—past and present—thank you for your service, your stewardship, and your unwavering commitment to protecting the places that inspire us all.

More than 100 sea turtle nests have already been laid on the beaches of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park... but fewer than half have been adopted!💔🐢

Each nest adoption helps support the protection, monitoring, and conservation of these incredible endangered sea turtles.

The deadline to adopt a nest is August 15!

The sooner you adopt and submit your personalized sign information, the longer your adoption sign will be displayed beside your nest.

You can also help protect nesting sea turtles by keeping our beaches:

CLEAN - Take everything you brought with you and, if you can, leave the beach even cleaner than you found it.

DARK - During nesting season, avoid lights on the beach after dark. No flashlights, flash photography, or even red lights. To nesting turtles, people and lights can feel like predators, causing them to abandon nesting attempts.

FLAT - Love building sandcastles or digging holes? Have fun, but please fill in holes and flatten sand structures before you leave so nesting turtles and hatchlings can safely reach the ocean.

🐾 Keep pets off the beach. While we love our four-legged friends, their scent and activity can disturb nesting turtles, damage nests, or interfere with hatchlings making their first journey to the sea. As a reminder, pets are not permitted on the beach at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

🐢 If you're fortunate enough to witness a nesting turtle, a nest emergence, or hatchlings during daylight hours, please notify the Ranger Station at 305-361-2976. Outside the park, contact the Miami-Dade Sea Turtle Conservation Program at 305-310-3046.

If you encounter turtles or hatchlings, admire them from a distance. Turn off all lights, give them plenty of space, and never stand between the turtles and the ocean.

Did you know that ALL snakes in our park are non-venomous?😊🐍

Keep an eye out for some of our most frequent visitors:
🐍 Eastern Rat Snake (our most common!)
🐍 Black Racer
🐍 Tiny Ring-necked Snake
🐍 Ribbon Snake

You might spot them crossing a road or trail, basking in the sun, or, if you have a sharp eye, hidden among the grass or even climbing through the trees.

The next time you visit, remember that every creature plays a role in protecting this special place. Admire our slithery neighbors from afar, give them plenty of space, and enjoy the chance to see Florida's wildlife in its natural habitat. 💚

Being a baby sea turtle definitely has its challenges!🐢

First, they have to find the right direction to the ocean. Then comes the long journey across the sand, navigating sargassum roadblocks, avoiding hungry predators and facing waves that are much stronger than they are.

But they keep going.

Tiny but determined, these hatchlings remind us that perseverance can carry you through even the biggest obstacles. 🌊💚
