Jules' Undersea Lab

Jules' Undersea Lab The world’s only underwater lab where recreational divers can experience living and sleeping underwater.

Once a research station and underwater hotel, now an educational attraction with MarineLab in Key Largo! Jules’ Undersea Lab was originally built as La Chalupa, a mobile undersea research laboratory and one of the most advanced habitats of its time. Over the years, it became famous as an underwater hotel where divers could live and sleep beneath the surface. Today, Jules’ is part of MarineLab Unde

rsea Park & Museum, serving as an educational attraction where visitors can learn about undersea living, explore the lagoon, and see inside a real underwater habitat. Recreational divers can still dive down to the moon pool, step inside the habitat, and experience a piece of undersea history up close.

Trash Derby recap 🗑️

Our team took part in this year’s Florida Keys Trash Derby by searching right where we are every day… the lagoon!

Our team spent the day diving and working through the area to remove debris that’s built up below the surface over time. From smaller pieces to heavier items, everything was collected and brought out piece by piece 💪😎

By the end of the cleanup, a total of 1,023 pounds of trash had been removed from the lagoon, including two transaxles totaling 700 pounds 😮

We recently had the Martin County Sheriff's Office Dive Team out at Jules’ Undersea Lab 👏🤿

During their time here, the team used the lagoon and habitat to run an extraction training, practicing recovery techniques in a controlled underwater environment and working through skills they use in real-world situations.

Using the lagoon like this allows dive teams to train in a unique setting, adding another layer to how underwater skills can be developed and applied! 😎

Kicking off 2026 with the first PADI Instructor Exam of the year 👏🤿

This month, we hosted the first 2026 PADI Instructor Exam, welcoming dive professionals as they took the next step toward teaching and mentoring future divers.

Instructor Exams mark the transition from experienced diver to educator, where candidates are evaluated on real-world skills, leadership, and the ability to guide others safely underwater.

We were glad to host such a strong group of candidates to start 2026 🤩
