Applications are 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡 for Class 45 of the Key West Ambassadors Academy!

There is no better way to get to know the City government than through this amazing program.

The weekly classes begin on July 14th and wrap up on September 29th. The class meets Tuesdays from 1:00-3:00pm, usually at City Hall, 1300 White Street.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙘 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣?
On December 15, 2025, City Commissioners, community stakeholders, organizational leaders, and City staff came together for a Strategic Planning Retreat to discuss the future of Key West.

During that retreat, participants agreed that the City needed more than just another planning document. The community needed a Strategic Plan focused on action, accountability, implementation, and measurable outcomes.

The result was a commitment to create a project-based roadmap that identifies priorities, aligns funding, establishes timelines, and tracks progress.

Building upon years of previous planning efforts, community input, stakeholder engagement, and data collection, the 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: 𝘍𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳-𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘥-𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩 Strategic Plan is designed to help monitor and move projects from concept to completion.
The plan focuses on four priority areas:

What is 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: 𝘍𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳-𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘥-𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩?

Key West Forward was the name of the City of Key West’s Strategic Plan developed between 2021 and 2024 through extensive community engagement, public meetings, stakeholder input, research, and planning efforts. Since then, additional planning, project development, public input, and data collection have continued throughout 2025 and 2026.

Now, the City is building upon all of those previous efforts to create a final action oriented Strategic Plan - one focused not only on identifying priorities, but on implementing projects, securing funding, and delivering measurable results for the community.

That is where the theme 𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥. 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗. 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗛. comes from.

𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 projects and initiatives that strengthen our community.
𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗 the priorities that matter most through responsible planning and investment.
𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗛 projects and deliver real, measurable results for residents, businesses, and future generations.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: 𝘍𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳-𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘥-𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩 Strategic Plan is designed to be a project based roadmap for action, accountability, transparency, and implementation.

That's how Commission Liaison Dorian Patton described the 700 block of Caroline Street, home to this month's Business Pride Award winners: Blue Marlin Jewelry, Key West Collective Gallery, and Sea, Key West.

Honored by the Keep Key West Beautiful Committee, the City Commission, and the Greater Key West Chamber of Commerce for their historic preservation, beautiful storefronts, and outstanding hospitality.

Join Plogging The Keys tomorrow (Friday) from 8-9am to team up with the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center for this week’s cleanup.

Join us in Truman Waterfront Park/Bahama Village areas. Meet us in the parking lot of the Eco-Discovery Center to pick up your vest, bucket and picker!

1 hour makes a HUGE difference. We'll be treated to some breakfast goodies when we are done. And you can check out the new exhibits inside the Eco-Discovery Center!

The Key West Police Mounted Unit mourns the loss of Mila, a 17-year-old Percheron/Friesian Draft Cross 🖤🐴

She had exceptionally served department for the last seven years and her passing was sudden and unexpected. Multiple veterinarians rushed to her aid. Ultrasound ultimately determined there was a rupture in her abdomen that was not symptomatic until there was nothing that could be done to save her.

The mounted patrol officers were by her side until the end to make sure Mila was comfortable and calm.

Mila was loved by her community and was one of the most distinguished and most photographed officers the Key West Police Department has had. Mila was at every major event in Key West, was a regular at the Leadership Monroe County get together in Marathon, and assisted agencies all over Florida with different major events.

Mila will be fondly remembered as one of, if not the best police horse to ever serve our community. Mila will be missed 🪽
