The Next-of-Kin Registry is a New Jersey statewide web-based system that allows individuals at least 14 years of age to voluntarily submit and maintain emergency contact information through the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. This non-public information will only be used by law enforcement officers to locate designated emergency contacts in an event that a person is involved in a vehicle crash that renders him or her unable to communicate.

The Next-of-Kin Registry was established in response to "Sara's Law," which was created in memory of Sara Elizabeth Dubinin from Sayreville. Miss Dubinin became unresponsive following a motor vehicle crash in September 2007 and lapsed into a coma before her parents could be notified. She eventually passed away. The law sought to ensure that an emergency contact could be notified immediately in the event of a vehicle crash.

☃️Winter Weather Prep☃️

Believe it or not, it’s time to talk about winter weather preparedness. Winter weather is just around the corner!
Are you ready?

🛠️Prepare Your Home🛠️

⛈Weatherproofing
• Insulate any water lines that run along exterior walls so your water supply will be less likely to freeze.
• Caulk and weather-strip doors and windows.
• Insulate walls and attic.
• Install storm or thermal-pane windows or cover windows with plastic from the inside.
• Repair roof leaks and cut away tree branches that could fall on your home or other structure during a storm.

♨️Have your chimney or flue inspected each year.
If you plan to use a fireplace or wood stove for emergency heating, have your chimney or flue inspected each year. Ask your local fire department to recommend an inspector or find one online.

🔥Install a smoke detector and a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector.
• If you’ll be using a fireplace, wood stove, or kerosene heater, install a smoke detector and a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector near the area to be heated. Test them monthly and replace batteries twice a year.
• Keep a multipurpose, dry-chemical fire extinguisher nearby.
• All fuel-burning equipment should be vented to the outside.
• Each winter season have your furnace system and vent checked by a qualified technician to ensure they are functioning properly.

✅Check out the infographic for tips on getting your family, home, and car ready for a winter storm. Learn more at https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/winter/index.html.

11/06/2023

During the month of September 2023, Detective
Eric Devlin had the privilege of attending the Cellebrite Certified Operator (CCO) and Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA) courses. These courses provided an advantage to the Keyport Police Department in investigations related to technology, such as cell phones, laptops, hard drives, sim cards, etc. The in-depth classes described how to efficiently utilize the Cellebrite programs.

The courses also provided the ability to understand how data on a device is stored with digital code, specifically using binary code. This knowledge is crucial for investigations leading to a trial involving an extracted device. The operator can explain and demonstrate that the data on the device is factual and irrefutable in terms of how that information was located on the device. The acquired knowledge is now a resource for the Keyport Police Department, providing the capability to access, extract, and analyze any device during investigations with limited delay. We are extremely proud of Detective Devlin and to be able to provide this type of advanced resource to our community and all our law enforcement partners.

KEYPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RESPONSE VOLUNTEERS

Keyport Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers to serve on the Keyport Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT).

180’s volunteer DVRT Advocates are civilian members of the community who work collaboratively with law enforcement to provide support, information, and resources to victims of domestic violence at police headquarters. Advocates also discuss with victims safety planning and their legal rights in regard to obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order. By providing support and crucial perspective of the situation, these specially-trained advocates help to empower victims to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

For over forty years, 180 Turning Lives Around, a private non-profit organization, has been dedicated to providing emergency safe housing, support, counseling, advocacy, education, and prevention in Monmouth County for individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. If you, or someone you know, is in need of assistance, please call 180’s Confidential Domestic Violence Hotline at 732-264-4111 or 888-843-9262, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Visit www.180nj.org for more information. In an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
