Protestors standing along Mineral Street in Keyser were holding signs that read “8647.”

Let’s be honest about what that means. It is a call to get rid of and in many interpretations to harm Donald Trump.

After multiple assassination attempts against President Trump including one just this week, this is not politics. This is reckless and dangerous behavior.

Anyone using this kind of language is either willfully ignorant or completely tone deaf to the reality of political violence in this country.

This is what happens when rhetoric goes unchecked. It escalates. It normalizes the unthinkable.

We will not accept it. We will not excuse it. And we will not stay silent while this kind of dangerous messaging shows up in our own community.

If you want to debate policy, do it. But if your message even hints at violence, you have already disqualified yourself from being taken seriously.

This has no place in Keyser. None

Mineral County Republican Executive Committee
Information Notice Regarding the May 12 Primary

In response to voter inquiries of the Committee regarding preferred candidates in the May 12 primary election, the Mineral County Republican Executive Committee notes that it voted in 2025 not to endorse candidates in the 2026 primary election.

During the current election cycle, the Committee has observed involvement by in-state and out-of-state political action committees (PACs) and other external support for or against candidates in federal, state, and local races. This activity includes PAC‑funded mailers and advertisements that reference Federal, Statewide, and Mineral County primary candidates.

The Committee’s stated position is that Mineral County primary elections should be determined by Mineral County voters, not by outside PACs' attempts to fund, influence, or deceive voters here or Statewide. The Committee does not participate in or direct the activities of PACs and does not take positions on individual candidates in the primary.

The Committee supports a primary election process in which voters evaluate candidates based on publicly available information, including record, qualifications, and prior service. Voters who receive campaign communications funded by outside PACs may wish to review campaign finance disclosures and seek additional information for accuracy directly from the candidates referenced in those materials.

Early voting begins April 29 and continues through May 9. Primary Election Day is May 12. The Mineral County Clerk’s Office is responsible for administering elections in Mineral County, including voter registration, polling locations, and the tabulation of results. Voters with questions about voting locations or procedures may contact the Mineral County Clerk’s Office at (304) 788‑3924.

House Bill 4404 has passed the Legislature and is now in the hands of the Governor.

This legislation addresses a long overdue issue by increasing an outdated spending cap that limited volunteer and part volunteer fire departments to just $500 per year for training materials, educational supplies, and fire prevention outreach. HB 4404 raises that cap to $5,000, giving departments the flexibility they need to properly train firefighters and educate the public.

Our volunteer fire departments are the backbone of emergency response across West Virginia. They operate on limited budgets, rely heavily on volunteers, and are asked to do more every year. The previous limit simply did not reflect today’s costs or the real needs of these departments.

By modernizing this cap, we are helping ensure our firefighters have better training, better resources, and the ability to keep our communities safer.

I was honored to be a sponsor of this important and much needed legislation.

You made your voices loud and clear!

The West Virginia Legislature has completed its work on House Bill 5168, providing a permanent state funding source (from Lottery funds) to EMS agencies for the first time in state history!

The 2026 Regular Session of the West Virginia Legislature has now adjourned SINE DIE, bringing this year’s legislative work to a close.

Over the past 60 days, the House and Senate worked through hundreds of bills addressing issues that affect communities across our state. While the pace is intense during session, the goal is always the same: to carefully review legislation and make decisions that will benefit the people of West Virginia.

It is an honor to represent Mineral County and the 87th District in the House of Delegates. I appreciate the many constituents who reached out during the session with their thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Your input helps guide the work we do under the Capitol dome.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
Delegate Gary Howell
