Yesterday marked one of the busiest days of the year for Barrier Island Ocean Rescue, and our team across Kiawah and Seabrook Island rose to the challenge.

From medical calls to preventions and on-the-spot enforcement, our guards were on it. They made sure locals and visitors alike could enjoy a safe and memorable holiday by the water. Their presence and quick response made a major impact in keeping our beaches secure during the height of the celebration.

Make sure to give them a thanks for all they do when you see them this weekend!

National Beach Safety Week is coming to a close, but before it does, we want to give you two reminders:
- Feet first water entry.
- Life jackets save lives.

These tips might seem simple, but they can prevent serious accidents and even save lives. Whether you’re diving in for fun or heading out on the water, making safe choices matters.

Continuing National Beach Safety Week with two more essential tips:
- Designate a water watcher.
- Alcohol and water don’t mix.
Why they matter: Having someone solely focused on watching swimmers ensures a quick response if something goes wrong. And while relaxing with a drink may sound nice, alcohol slows reaction time and can lead to risky decisions in and around the water. Safety first means more fun for everyone!

Happy National Beach Safety Week!
As we head into summer, it’s the perfect time to brush up on how to stay safe while enjoying the ocean. Let’s start with the first two essential tips:

1. Swim Near a Lifeguard
Lifeguards are trained to spot danger and respond fast. Swimming near a lifeguard greatly reduces your risk — their watchful eyes can make all the difference in an emergency. They’re our best line of defense against the unexpected at the beach.

2. Learn to Swim
Drowning happens quickly and often without warning. Strong swimming skills — like floating and treading water — can save your life. Being prepared gives you the confidence to enjoy the water safely.
