The little white fuzzy thing in the frame is actually a frog fish lure. That's right the fish is fishing. The frog fish hides in plain sight and the prey sees only the lure....... And it's the last thing it sees too.

I saw this fish while diving with Azure Dive Resort in Dauin Philippines and can 100% recommend them. Locally owned and operated this resort is not pretentious and offers divers a great place to relax, eat, and dive. I stayed there three times and love it. The boat crew, dive masters, hotel & restaurant staff are genuine and friendly.

I have worked in the dive industry since the 90's, and am fortunate to have traveled to some incredible places and met wonderful people. On live-aboard and day boats however there are always group dynamics that come into play. While everyone on the boat may love to dive, not all divers are alike.

Some divers take a camera and are all about getting the shot. Sometimes they spend a long time waiting for behavior to happen, and other divers get bored, especially those that don't take pictures, or those that go through their air quickly.

I've been to a few locations in the Philippines that cater to both types of divers. I went on a dive boat that had a few groups. One DM took a a group of 4 or 5 divers on a guided dive. As my friend and I are both cameras, we decided to hire private spotters.

Each of us had our own DM finding critters to shoot. I have to say this was an awesome service. Having a spotter with local knowledge enabled me to spend time photographing critters, not searching for critters to photograph. There is a big difference.

Some spotters have advanced training too and can assist photographers when it comes to aligning a snoot, changing settings, and suggesting different angles or points of view.

This type of service is priceless for the underwater photographer and little by little has created a need to train more local DM's to become spotters and assist u/w photographers. As underwater photography becomes more popular so will this level of service.

I was looking through wide angle images today on my hard drive and thought, I need to make a snow globe with this photograph. Some of you will recognize this site right away. For those that don't the site is Mellow Yellow. I am upside down and shooting almost straight up. The valley between the coral bommies is on my right. The Ra Divers boat is at the surface.

Aloha FB friends. Please help me spread the word about a large, one bedroom furnished ohana for rent. My tenant got transferred to mainland and it will be open in about a week. It has private entrance, a/c, off street parking, access to washer and dryer, fruit trees, and whoever lives there gets to play with Ace the wonder dog! Includes utilities and tax. I have never felt more alive than when in the water swimming with whales. Observing the devotion between mother and calf, and seeing the playful antics of a baby exploring its world fill my heart with happiness.

While capturing these moments with photographs allows me to share the experience with people that don't have access to the ocean, organizing small groups to go on dedicated whale swimming adventures allows me to introduce people to whales in the wild. Watching people react to being with the whales fills my heart with joy.

I created Sea of Dreams on the beach in Kihei near the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary It's the tiny green building in the background. I printed it on metallic paper and face mounted it to acrylic. The presentation is the highest quality I've seen. Size is 72 x 36 inch piece. This is the only one ever made and has been in storage since the fire. I have retired and am trying to down size. If interested in this portrait send me a message. When you get lost in the moment only to realize you've just witnessed Dolphins interacting with Humpback Whales. While it seemed like the whales were performing a beautiful ballet, they were activity practicing behaviors typical in a competition pod to show dominance, size, and strength. The whales got vertical, sideways, and upside down while exhaling bubbles and exerting force. All the while the dolphins were darting in, out, and all about. These are the moments that last a lifetime.

On the third day of my trip, I told my guide, RiRicky Garualdo wanted to see a Wonderpus. Ricky, knew not only which dive site to go to but what time and tide provided the best chance of being one. Ricky was right! Thank you to AzAzure Dive Resortfor getting me out there.

I have stayed at this resort three times and love the local atmosphere and style. It's small and caters to the needs of the divers visiting.
