Unfortunately, last week we issued several dozen citations in the construction area at the I-20 and Highway 31 interchange. Several were above 70 m.p.h.
To clarify, the reduced speed limit of 55 mph set by TxDOT is in effect at all times, regardless of whether workers are present. However, please note that fines for these citations can double when workers are present in the area.
This area is particularly dangerous due to construction vehicles entering and exiting, as well as traffic crossing Highway 31 from I-20 and Post Oak Road. Please be mindful of these conditions and remember to reduce your speed when driving through this zone. Our goal is to gain voluntary compliance. We don't care if we write one more citation. We've got years of this construction, so safety is paramount.
It is not a trap; we are constantly warning everyone. Please slow down.
P.S.
This is all a TXDOT project, and we have zero impact on how they set speed limits and barriers. Staying at or below the speed limit will help.

A single bullet fired into the air doesn’t just disappear, it always lands somewhere.

Depending on the firearm, a bullet can travel up to 1–3 miles before hitting the ground.

For example, a shot fired from Longview City Hall (300 W. Cotton Street) could land at Broughton Park, the Fourth Street Trailhead for Cargill Long Trail or even McWhorter Park.

A single shot can impact lives in seconds. Help END illegal gunfire in Longview this July 4.

If you hear or see illegal gunfire, call 911.
For non-emergencies, call 903-237-1199.
