The little bit of rain we experienced this weekend almost felt helpful. You may have even thought, โHey, maybe I can finally burn that brush pile?"
Yeah, about that. . .
Hereโs the deal:
๐ซ Kill Devil Hills does NOT allow open burning. Ever. (Yes, even that small pile. Even just for a minute.)
๐ซ On top of that, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a statewide burn ban and cancelled all burning permits until further notice.
And while we appreciated the light rain this weekend, it didnโt do much to fix the ongoing dry conditions. (Just to be absolutely clear, the Town's no open burning rule is always in effect, rain or shine.)
๐ฅ Why this matters:
Dry conditions + open flames = fast-moving fires. That puts you, your home, your neighbors, and our firefighters at serious risk.
๐ What you can do instead:
โ Dispose of waste through approved methods
โ Ensure anything capable of igniting a fire is properly stored, secured, and closely supervised at all times
We appreciate everyone doing their part to keep our Town safe!
