Wednesday Update:

– JV Soccer home vs Catholic, 4:30
– JV/V Volleyball at Manteo, 4:30/6
– Cross Country at Manteo (exhibition), 5
– JV Football at Currituck, 6

– While the hot temps shortened the first match of the women’s golf season to only nine holes, the team certainly “brought the heat” as the Nighthawks defeated Manteo and Currituck by more than 11 strokes. Kaitlyn Schwartzenberg finished with the low score of 37 and Piper Lankford finished third overall with a score of 48. The team’s next match is Tuesday at Sea Scape Golf Links at 1:30.

– The tennis team traveled to Bertie on Tuesday to compete in challenging conditions with the heat, with the Nighthawks earning an impressive 9-0 win. Singles wins were recorded by Kai Stabley, India Cherry, Emma Butler, Maeve Preisser, Lila Foubister and BA Folkes. The doubles courts secured wins with Preisser-Folkes, Kenzi Ouellette and Camille Barnes, and Camdyn Sawyer and Cammie Clark. Thursday is the first home match of the season, against Martin County at 4:30.

– The varsity soccer team hosted the Catholic Crusaders last night and couldn't overcome a strong first-half performance from the visitors, trailing 2-0 at the break before falling 4-2. The Nighthawks answered in the second half when Luis Alfaro converted a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. Catholic responded quickly, however, scoring two more goals to extend the lead. Cole Voight added a late goal for FFHS on another penalty kick following a foul. FFHS will look to bounce back on Thursday at 6 when they travel to Wilson Fike.

Tuesday around noon, we lost phone and internet due to a Spectrum outage. Schools have backup emergency communication procedures in place. Families needing to contact the school should do so in person.

– FFHS Student Services hosted a virtual meeting last night for Senior Post-Secondary Planning. Over 50 families tuned in to learn about everything post-high school, from college apps to the ASVAB to career searches and opportunities and more! This presentation kicked off Senior Meetings with the FFHS counselors and their students and parents. We encourage all senior parents and students to schedule a senior meeting using the Calendly link that was shared in the most recent Flight Log.

– Please note that tomorrow's cross country exhibition match at Currituck has been canceled. The Nighthawks will race instead at Manteo's exhibition.

Our seniors showed up and showed out during our Fly Time visit today by an admissions counselor from UNC Chapel Hill! Thanks to our awesome college adviser, Gillian Kepley, for getting this set up for our students!

Parents, we'll host a variety of college and career reps throughout the year who your students can visit with to learn about a host of post-secondary options, so make sure they're taking advantage of every opportunity!

Thursday Update:

-- JV Soccer at Norfolk Academy, 5

-- The varsity soccer team traveled to Norfolk to face off against the Mighty Oaks on Tuesday. Norfolk Collegiate broke the deadlock with a little over 14 minutes remaining in the first half, sending the Nighthawks into the break trailing 1-1. Less than two minutes into the second half, the Mighty Oaks capitalized on a direct kick awarded from a First Flight foul, extending their lead. The Nighthawks struggled to find their rhythm the rest of the way and ultimately fell 5-0. Come out and support our Nighthawks today at 5 for their home opener against Norfolk Academy!
