Little Missouri is a remote park surrounded by unique terrain and history.
Explore areas like: Killdeer and the killdeer mountains, Newtown, Watford City, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Medora.

The 95-Day Window Calendar is here! Monday, Feb. 9 marks the first day you can start making campsite reservations for the 2026 summer season in ND state parks.

Campsite reservations can be made 95 days before arrival, so those booking on Feb. 9 can make a reservation for a May 15 arrival.

Trails are Open at this time!
A cool breeze and strong cloud coverage this morning. Rain showers are expected throughout today and the weekend. We have not received enough precipitation to close trails. If we do reach high precipitation with unsafe trail conditions we will make a separate update post. Happy Friday!

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Campsites are filling up, there is limited availability. The park office will be closed Sunday and Monday due to staffing shortages. Permits and reservations can be made online (link in comments). A friendly reminder to stay hydrated when on the trails this weekend!

Lake Sakakawea State Park is seeking a full-time Park Ranger to join our team. This role blends facility maintenance, visitor assistance, rule enforcement, and team support to ensure a high-quality experience for all.

We’re seeking a service-driven individual with a passion for environmental stewardship and the ability to manage daily operations, support staff, and engage the public.

On-site housing is provided with this position, and the Park Ranger is expected to reside within the park while on call or duty to support operations.

Trail Update!

Team members are working on sections of EN trail. This work includes the usage of motorized machines. For your safety and the safety of our team members, we ask that visitors stay on the T, TH, and I trailhead and avoid connecting to the EN trailhead this week.

Work will wrap up on Friday, May 22. Thank you for your understanding.
