Killeen Animal Services is participating in the national Clear the Shelters campaign for the second year, and adoption fees are waived through Aug. 31.

Dogs, cats and other animals are waiting to meet their new families. Adopted dogs and cats receive appropriate vaccinations, deworming and a microchip as part of the adoption process.

8/20/26 @ 7:50 a.m.: Atmos Energy has completed its work and cleared the scene at Century Park Apartments. Oncor has restored power, and residents have been cleared to return to their apartments. All affected roads have reopened.

Atmos Energy remains on site at Century Park Apartments working to address the natural gas leak reported Tuesday evening. City crews continue to support the response.

Work is taking longer than initially anticipated. Evacuated residents have been relocated to a local hotel, with accommodations provided by Atmos Energy.

Residents will be notified when it is safe to return. Please continue to avoid the area and follow traffic control measures.
