🚨 **Traffic Alert – New Enforcement Begins Today** 🚨

Effective immediately, our department will begin strict enforcement of a newly adopted state traffic law requiring all drivers to come to a **full 5-second stop** at every stop sign. Officers will be timing stops, and violations may result in a citation.

In addition, drivers who make eye contact with an officer at an intersection will be required to wave back to confirm awareness. Failure to do so may also result in a warning. 👋

We ask everyone to adjust their driving habits accordingly as we roll out this new initiative to improve roadway safety.

…or you can just remember what day it is 😉

**Happy April Fools’ Day from the Kilmarnock Police Department!**

🌪️ Tornado Safety: What To Do During a Tornado Warning
A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted or detected by radar and you should take shelter immediately.

If a warning is issued for our area:
➡️ Go indoors immediately.
➡️ Move to the lowest level of your home or building, such as a basement or interior room.
➡️ Stay away from windows and exterior walls.
➡️ If possible, shelter in a small interior room, hallway, or closet.
➡️ Protect your head and neck with your arms, a pillow, or a mattress.
➡️ If you are in a mobile home, seek sturdier shelter immediately.

📱 Keep a weather radio or phone alerts on so you receive warnings quickly.

Your safety is our top priority. Stay alert to weather updates from the National Weather Service and local officials.

A tornado has been sighted or detected by radar. Take shelter immediately.

Prepare BEFORE severe weather arrives:
✔️ Identify the safest place in your home (basement or interior room on the lowest floor).
✔️ Keep phones charged and enable emergency weather alerts.
✔️ Have a basic emergency kit ready (flashlight, water, medications, weather radio).
✔️ Know where you will go if you are away from home.
✔️ Stay tuned to trusted weather sources.

Being prepared ahead of time can make all the difference during severe weather.
