🌤️ Town of Kilmichael – Daily Update
Wednesday, January 28, Noon
City Hall Operations
City Hall is open and operating normally today. As temperatures rise, residents may begin to notice water leaks or broken pipes. If you discover a leak or need assistance cutting your water off, please contact City Hall at 662‑262‑4242 between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
After hours, please contact:
• Public Works Director Josh Pearson: 662-688-19827
• Mayor Tommy Rushing: 662-417-4002
If you cannot reach anyone and the matter is urgent, please call the Montgomery County EOC at 662‑283‑1121 (Option 1).
🗑️ Trash Collection (Updated 5:00 PM)
Meridian Waste has informed us that trash pickup will have been suspended due to hazardous conditions until Tuesday, February 3 for the Town of Kilmichael.
🏛️ Montgomery CountyEmergency Declaration
Yesterday, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors declared a local state of emergency, aligning with the statewide emergency declared by Governor Tate Reeves and approved at the federal level.
The Town of Kilmichael will likely issue its own emergency declaration and enter interlocal agreements with the County at our next regularly scheduled board meeting. This is done retroactively to receive assistance from Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency and other partners.
🌳 Debris Removal
As cleanup begins and the weather warms, please place storm debris along the roadside, ensuring it does not block traffic.
The Town of Kilmichael is not conducting debris removal at this time. We are hopeful that federal assistance will become available to hire contractors for debris pickup, but no approval has been granted yet.
⚡ Electrical Service Updates
Entergy Mississippi’s 8 PM update last night reported that over 50% of Mississippi customers have been restored. For the Grenada District, which includes Kilmichael, Entergy estimates full restoration by February 1, though many customers may see power sooner.
Important reminders for customers still without power:
• Inspect your weatherhead, meter base, and service entrance for damage.
• If damaged, contact a licensed electrician for repairs.
• If no damage is visible, text OUT to 36778 or call 800‑968‑8243.
• After repairs are completed, call 800‑368‑3749 to request reconnection.
Delta Electric Power Association
From their Facebook- Update 01/28/26 – 11:05 AM
All substations are now operational, allowing restoration efforts to move more quickly. Outages have dropped to around 16,000, down from a peak of 21,000. Additional crews are arriving today to support the 350 personnel already working.
If you have a locked gate and storm damage on your property, please unlock it so crews can access the area for repairs.
Delta Electric will continue posting updates on their page.
Absolutely — here’s a strong, encouraging closing you can add to the end of the update:
In times like these, our strength shows in how we look out for one another. Kilmichael has always been “The Town That Cares”, and together we’ll continue to support our neighbors and community.
The Town of Kilmichael will share additional updates as they become available.
Stay safe and take care of one another.
