The Class of 2030 had their Commit to Graduate Ceremony this morning. Mr. Trey Vernaci spoke to them about Growth (the G in GRIT). He touched on points about how Growth is not always linear and how me must celebrate ourselves every step of the way. His speech gave so many inspirational nuggets about staying the course through to graduation and the endless possibilities that opens for our students.

Mrs. Evan's Star Students ⭐📣

Kamdyn Jackson consistently stays on top of his work, has never gotten in trouble, and is always ready and willing to help anyone around him who may need a little extra support. His positive attitude, hard work, and willingness to help others make such a difference in our classroom. We are so lucky to have students like him who not only work hard for themselves but also encourage and support those around them

Alexis Garcia-Sanchez has shown some AMAZING growth! 🙌🏼 He definitely knows how to keep our class laughing and has always brought plenty of personality into the classroom 😂, but recently, he has made a real effort to turn that energy toward his schoolwork. He has started taking more pride in his work, putting in the effort, and showing that he truly cares about his success. Watching a student recognize their potential and make the choice to do better is one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher. I am so proud of the progress he has made and can’t wait to see where he goes from here! Keep it up!

Last week, AP Human Geography students in Ms. Bailey's class stepped beyond the textbook to explore how spatial thinking shapes regional growth, hosting two guest speakers from the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission: Executive Director Blaine LaFontaine (HHS Class of 2005) and Aerospace Development Specialist Opie McClure.

The interactive session provided students with a real-world application by connecting classroom concepts directly to local economic development and infrastructure planning.

The speakers highlighted Hancock County’s physical site factors contrasting with the county’s strategic situation, demonstrating how spatial connectivity through freight rail, ports, utility corridors, and port airspace positions the region as an industrial powerhouse. Students also learned how economic developers map human and physical capital to evaluate demographic data, local workforce capabilities, and educational pipelines so developers can identify optimal zones for attracting high-tech manufacturing and blue-economy jobs.

Today, we feature our Special Education department!

Our Special Education Department is made up of fierce proponents of students—educators who believe deeply that every student deserves to be seen, supported, challenged, and given every opportunity to succeed. Their work requires patience, expertise, flexibility, compassion, and an incredible amount of heart. They celebrate progress in all its forms, recognizing that success looks different for every learner and that every step forward matters.

More than teachers, they are advocates. They work alongside students, families, teachers, and staff to remove barriers, provide meaningful support, and ensure that students have both a voice and a place in our school community. They know their students’ strengths, recognize their potential, and refuse to let a challenge define what a student can accomplish. Whether they are adapting instruction, building confidence, teaching independence, celebrating a hard-earned victory, or simply making sure a student knows someone is firmly in their corner, our Special Education teachers show up with determination and heart. They make our school more compassionate, more inclusive, and better for every student who walks through our doors.
